A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow \~10% on top (*[*Methodology*](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/methodology/)*).*

> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Lavender is a genuinely useful real-time coach for anyone who lives in their outbox — it scores your sales email as you type and tells you, specifically, what's dragging your reply rate down. The free tier is real, the Chrome extension drops straight into Gmail and Outlook, and the advice is grounded in a large email dataset rather than vibes. But it's a US product through and through: USD-only billing, no Australian data residency, no local support, and coaching tuned to American sales culture. Good tool, narrow job, light on Australian fit.

## What Lavender is

Lavender is an AI email coach for salespeople. It lives as a browser extension inside your inbox and grades each email you write in real time, scoring it out of 100 and flagging the things that hurt replies — long sentences, weak subject lines, spam-trigger words, the wrong reading level, too much "me" and not enough "you."

It is not a CRM, an autoresponder, or a bulk-send tool. It is a writing coach that sits beside the people doing cold outreach — sales development reps, account executives, founders chasing their first customers — and nudges each message toward something a human will actually open and answer. Lavender's own positioning is built around its analysis of "billions of emails" to work out what drives replies, and it surfaces that as live feedback rather than a report you read later.

There's also a newer agent product, **Ora**, pitched as an AI that drafts emails "like a top seller." This review covers the core Email Coach — the thing most Australians will actually start with.

## What it costs in Australia

Lavender bills in **US dollars** with no AUD option and no GST invoice. The conversions below use the publication's standard rate (US$1 ≈ A$1.40) and show figures ex-GST (GST-registered businesses quoting an ABN are not charged GST; other buyers add \~10%)— but note Lavender issues no GST-compliant tax invoice, so treat the AUD figures as a conversion estimates, not a quoted price.

| Plan | Price (USD, billed annually) | Approx. AUD (ex-GST) | Who it's for |
| -------------- | ---------------------------- | -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Basic (Free) | US$0 | A$0 | 5 email analyses/month, Gmail + Outlook |
| Starter | US$27/mo | \~A$38/mo | Individuals on Gmail/Outlook, unlimited analysis |
| Individual Pro | US$45/mo | \~A$63/mo | Adds deeper integrations (Outreach, Salesloft, HubSpot), priority support |
| Teams | US$89/seat/mo | \~A$125/seat/mo | Teams of 2+, coaching dashboard, leaderboard, analytics |

*Pricing basis: Lavender's own Email Coach pricing page (lavender.ai/coach), confirmed 20 June 2026\. The figures above are the annual-billing rates; monthly billing runs slightly higher (Starter US$29, Pro US$49, Teams US$99/seat). Annual billing saves roughly 20%.*

Two things matter for an Australian buyer. First, there is **no AUD billing** — your card gets charged in USD, so the real cost moves with the exchange rate, and you may cop a foreign-transaction fee on top. Second, a Teams seat at roughly **A$125/month ex-GST** is not trivial; for a five-person sales team that's around A$9,100 a year for what is, fundamentally, a writing coach.

The free tier is the smart entry point. Five analyses a month won't run a sales desk, but it's plenty to decide whether the coaching changes how you write.

## How it works in practice

You install the Chrome extension, connect Gmail or Outlook, and start writing. A panel opens beside your draft and updates as you type. You get a live score, a checklist of what's helping and hurting, and one-tap fixes — shorten this sentence, cut this filler, swap this subject line.

The Personalisation Assistant pulls public context about your recipient into the panel — recent activity, role, a few personality-style cues — so you can open with something specific instead of "I hope this email finds you well." Lavender integrates beyond the basics too, connecting with Outreach, Salesloft, HubSpot, Apollo, Groove and Gong, so it works inside the tools a sales team already uses rather than asking them to leave.

The experience is fast and low-friction. There's no new app to learn — the coaching appears where you already write. The learning curve is measured in minutes, not days.

## What it does well

- **Specific, actionable feedback.** It doesn't say "make this better." It says this sentence is too long, this word reads as spam, your email is pitched at a Year 12 reading level when it should be Year 7\. You can act on every flag in seconds.
- **Real-time, in-context.** Coaching happens as you write, inside Gmail or Outlook. No copy-paste, no separate dashboard, no after-the-fact report nobody reads.
- **Grounded in data, not opinion.** Scoring is built on Lavender's analysis of a very large email corpus, so the advice reflects what actually correlates with replies rather than one consultant's preferences.
- **A free tier that's genuinely usable.** Five analyses a month is enough to test the coaching properly before paying anything — rare in this category.
- **Sensible security posture.** Lavender states it is SOC 2 certified and GDPR compliant, with encryption in transit and at rest, and it authenticates through Google and Microsoft rather than storing passwords.

## What it doesn't do well

- **No Australian fit by design.** USD-only billing, no GST invoice, no local support hours. Lavender publishes SOC 2 and GDPR credentials but no public data-residency statement, and offers no stated Australian or regional hosting option — so for a US-headquartered operation you should assume your prospect data and email content are processed offshore unless Lavender confirms otherwise in writing.
- **The coaching speaks American.** Reading-level targets, tone advice and "personality" framing are tuned to US sales culture. Plenty transfers, but the default register can read as pushy or over-familiar to an Australian recipient. You'll need to overrule it sometimes.
- **Narrow job.** It coaches the writing of one email at a time. It won't manage your pipeline, sequence your follow-ups, or send anything. If you wanted an all-in-one sales engine, this isn't it.
- **Team pricing adds up fast.** At \~A$125/seat/month ex-GST, a small team is looking at four figures a year for a writing aid — a hard sell unless reply rates demonstrably lift.
- **Score-chasing risk.** Optimise too hard for a 90+ and every email starts to sound the same. The number is a guide, not the goal, and Lavender won't stop you over-fitting to it.

## Australian fit

This is where Lavender is weakest, and honesty demands we say so. There is no AUD billing, no GST-compliant tax invoice out of the box, no Australian support presence, and no stated Australian or even regional data residency. For a sales rep emailing local prospects, the content of those emails — names, companies, deal context — is being processed offshore on US systems. For most outbound sales that's a commercial annoyance rather than a compliance breach, but if you work in a regulated field (finance, legal, health) and your drafts contain client-identifying detail, check your obligations first.

This tool doesn't replace qualified professional advice. If data-handling or privacy obligations apply to your work, confirm them with your own adviser before feeding client information into any offshore AI service.

The coaching itself is broadly useful here — short sentences and clear asks travel well — but the tone defaults lean American. Treat its suggestions as a starting point, not gospel, and keep your own ear for how an email lands with an Australian reader.

## Alternatives

- **Copy.ai** — broader marketing-and-sales copy generation rather than live inbox coaching. Better if you want to draft from scratch across channels; weaker as a real-time reply-rate coach.
- **Apollo** — a full sales-engagement and prospecting platform. If you need data, sequencing and sending in one place (and Lavender is just the writing piece), Apollo does more — Lavender even integrates with it.
- **Plain Gmail/Outlook with a human editor** — only half a joke. If you write few enough emails, a colleague's second read may beat a US$89 seat.

## Bottom line

If you or your team write cold sales email for a living, Lavender earns a trial. The real-time, specific coaching is the best version of this idea I've seen, the free tier lets you test it at no cost, and the in-inbox experience means it actually gets used. Start free, prove the reply-rate lift on your own emails, and only then weigh the USD seat cost.

What stops it short of a top recommendation here is Australian fit. USD-only pricing, no AU data residency, no local support, and coaching pitched at an American sales register all mean Australian buyers are working around the product rather than with it. It's a very good tool doing a narrow job — just one built for someone else's market, that we happen to be able to use.

Update history
- **29 Sep 2026 — verified USD by browser; ladder clean.** The old `lavender.ai/pricing` address now returns a not-found page; Email Coach pricing lives at `lavender.ai/coach#pricing`, read on an Australian connection: Basic $0 (5 analyses and 5 personalisations a month), Starter $27, Individual Pro $45 and Team $89 a seat a month, all billed annually — every figure in the table holds. Bare dollar sign, no `A$` in the markup; read as USD. The monthly-billing figures in the note below were not shown on the page today and stand on the June read. One label fixed: the Teams-seat figure in the prose said *inc. GST* on our own conversion; it is ex-GST. The site now leads with its **Ora** sales agent, which this review already notes; Email Coach is unchanged. - **20 Jun 2026** — First reviewed.
- **24 Sep 2026** — **The AUD column was never grossed up for GST, and every word around it said it was.** The header read *“gross-up; GST unconfirmed”* and the note beneath described a 10% uplift — while the figures themselves are plain conversions at 1.4045\. Checked before changing a word: across the 63 files carrying this wording, **141 rows convert at 1.4045 and none at 1.4045 × 1.10**. **No figure changed here; only the description of them did.** Two things were wrong beyond the arithmetic: *gross-up* names a tax uplift and was being used for a currency conversion, and *GST unconfirmed* is stale — our GST rule settled it on 5 September 2026, and a GST-registered Australian business supplying its ABN is **not charged GST** on an imported digital service. **No USD price moved and no score changed.** `reviewed:` untouched per our dating rule.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Lavender available in Australia?

Yes. It's a Chrome extension that drops into Gmail and Outlook and works from Australia. But there's no AU support presence or local business hours — it's a US product through and through.

### Does Lavender charge in AUD?

No. Lavender bills in US dollars with no AUD option and no GST-compliant invoice, so your real cost moves with the exchange rate and you may cop a foreign-transaction fee. Starter is US$27/mo (\~A$38) and Teams US$89/seat/mo (\~A$125) on annual billing.

### Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Basic (free) tier gives 5 email analyses a month on Gmail and Outlook — enough to test whether the coaching changes how you write before paying anything.

### Where is my email data processed?

Offshore. Lavender publishes SOC 2 and GDPR credentials but no public data-residency statement and no stated Australian or regional hosting — so assume your prospect data and email content are processed on US systems. For most outbound sales that's a commercial annoyance; in regulated fields (finance, legal, health) check your obligations first.

### Will the coaching suit Australian sales emails?

Partly. Short sentences and clear asks travel well, but the reading-level targets, tone advice and "personality" framing are tuned to US sales culture and can read as pushy or over-familiar to an Australian recipient. Treat its suggestions as a starting point, not gospel.
