- Description: Hightouch is the most technically ambitious reverse ETL and AI Decisioning platform on the market — raised $150M in April 2026 at a $2.75B valuation. But it's built for enterprise marketing and data teams with warehouses already in place, not for smaller Aussie businesses.

> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Hightouch is a legitimate enterprise platform for syncing warehouse data into marketing and advertising tools — and its AI Decisioning product is genuinely interesting. But it requires a data warehouse you already own, engineering buy-in, and a budget that starts well above anything self-serve. For Australian businesses below 50+ people with a dedicated data team, this is a tool you will not get value from.

## What Hightouch is

Hightouch began as a reverse ETL platform: it reads data from your existing data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift) and syncs it into downstream tools — Salesforce, HubSpot, Google Ads, Braze, Intercom, and 300-plus others. The idea is that your warehouse is already the source of truth, so why rebuild that logic inside every separate marketing or CRM tool?

That was the original pitch. The platform has since grown considerably. Hightouch now describes itself as an Agentic Marketing Platform, built around two main products: the Composable CDP (customer data platform) and AI Decisioning.

**AI Decisioning** is the headline product as of 2026\. It uses reinforcement learning to determine the right message, channel, and timing for each customer — what Hightouch calls 1:1 personalisation at scale. PetSmart reportedly increased incremental salon bookings by 22% in three weeks using it. Hightouch raised an $80M Series C in February 2025 specifically to push AI Decisioning adoption, then closed a $150M Series D in April 2026 — valuing the company at $2.75B — to build out what it calls the end-to-end system for agentic marketing. Customers include Spotify, DoorDash, Domino's, and Ramp.

This is a developer and data-team tool, sold almost exclusively to enterprise marketing and data engineering teams. If you do not have a data warehouse already configured and a data engineer who can model SQL, Hightouch is not for you.

---

## What it costs in Australia

Hightouch does not publish dollar pricing for its paid tiers. Here is what is confirmed on its pricing page:

- **Basic Reverse ETL (free):** Up to 2 active syncs. Unlimited destinations, unlimited user seats.
- **Composable CDP:** Custom quote. Usage-based, charged on monthly tracked rows (MTRs). Includes Customer Studio, Reverse ETL, Events, Identity Resolution, and Real-time Personalisation as composable modules.
- **Agentic Marketing Platform (AI Decisioning / Ad Studio / Lifecycle Studio):** Custom quote. Usage-based on monthly personalised actions.

Third-party procurement data (Vendr) puts median annual contracts at around USD $15,000, with negotiated discounts of 26–48% common. That translates to approximately AUD $21,000 per year (USD×1.40), or more for larger deployments. Enterprise customers with AI Decisioning will pay significantly more.

GST treatment is not disclosed publicly — standard for a US-based SaaS vendor selling into Australia. GST would typically apply at 10% on top, though you should verify with your accountant.

**The practical reality:** Hightouch is sales-led at any meaningful scale. The free tier gives you 2 syncs, enough to test whether the concept fits. Everything useful beyond that requires a conversation with their team.

---

## How it works in practice

Hightouch sits between your warehouse and your destination tools. You write SQL (or use the no-code model builder) to define which records and attributes you want to sync, then configure the destination — Salesforce, say, or a Facebook Custom Audience. Hightouch handles the syncing logic, change detection, and observability.

The engineering setup is non-trivial the first time. You connect your warehouse as a source, build or import your data models, then configure syncs. Most teams get a useful first sync running in a few hours, assuming the warehouse is already there. If you are starting from scratch with no warehouse, Hightouch Events can collect event data directly.

AI Decisioning adds a layer on top of that foundation. Instead of manually defining campaign segments and schedules, the platform's reinforcement learning engine learns which sequence of messages across which channels leads to the highest customer lifetime value, and executes accordingly. This is legitimately sophisticated — the kind of thing that previously required an in-house ML team.

---

## What it does well

**Warehouse-first architecture.** If your data is already in Snowflake or BigQuery, this is probably the cleanest way to activate it. You are not duplicating data or maintaining a separate customer database.

**Scale of integrations.** 300-plus destinations is a real number. Syncing to niche ad platforms, obscure CRMs, or newer marketing tools is handled in most cases.

**AI Decisioning is genuine.** This is not a chatbot bolted onto a dashboard. Reinforcement learning-based 1:1 personalisation is a legitimate capability that enterprise retailers and loyalty programs use to measurable effect.

**Enterprise security posture.** SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA compliance, GDPR support, multi-region deployment. It is built for organisations with procurement and security review requirements.

**Free tier actually works.** Two active syncs is enough to validate whether Hightouch solves your specific problem before spending a dollar.

---

## What it doesn't do well

**Opaque pricing beyond the free tier.** Nothing kills evaluation momentum like not knowing whether you are looking at AUD $10,000 or AUD $150,000 a year. Every team with a meaningful use case ends up in a sales conversation, which adds weeks to the decision.

**Not self-serve at scale.** Adding a sync, troubleshooting a failed run, understanding why records did not update — these things require either engineering time or Hightouch's own support. It is not designed for a business analyst to manage independently.

**No Australian data region.** Hightouch offers a US region and a European region (EU-West-1 on AWS). There is no Australian data region. For Australian businesses syncing customer data between systems, this means that Hightouch's infrastructure is processing and temporarily holding data offshore. Under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, cross-border disclosure of personal information carries obligations — specifically, you remain responsible for how overseas recipients handle that data. Teams should obtain a Data Processing Addendum and assess whether this satisfies their obligations (confirm DPA availability with Hightouch legal).

**Requires a warehouse you may not have.** The entire value proposition collapses if you are not already running a modern data warehouse. This eliminates most Australian SMEs immediately.

**AI Decisioning is enterprise-only in practice.** Reinforcement learning personalisation at the scale it is designed for means tens of thousands of customers minimum and a team to manage campaign logic. A 50-person Australian business running email campaigns does not need this.

## Australian fit

| Question | Answer |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| AUD pricing? | No — USD only, sales-led |
| Australian data region? | No — US and EU regions only |
| GST disclosed? | No |
| Privacy Act considerations? | Yes — offshore data processing requires assessment |
| AU support hours? | Not confirmed |
| AU business context in outputs? | N/A — infrastructure tool |

The Privacy Act angle deserves particular attention. Hightouch is fundamentally a tool for moving customer data between systems — syncing records from your warehouse into Salesforce, Braze, Google Ads audience lists, and so on. Each of those data movements is potentially a cross-border disclosure of personal information under Australian law. The fact that Hightouch does not offer an Australian data region makes this more complex, not simpler.

If you are a large Australian retailer or financial services firm using Hightouch for audience activation, your legal team needs to be involved. This is not a criticism of Hightouch — it is a structural characteristic of the product category.

## Alternatives

If your team needs to activate warehouse data into marketing tools and you are assessing Hightouch, consider:

- [**Census / Fivetran Activations**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/review-census-australia-2026/) — direct competitor, acquired by Fivetran in 2025\. Now part of a consumption-priced data pipeline platform.
- [**Metabase**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/metabase-review-australia/) — not a reverse ETL tool, but if the underlying need is querying warehouse data and sharing results, Metabase is far more accessible and starts free.
- [**Hex**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/review-hex-australia-2026/) — if the goal is collaborative data analysis rather than data activation, Hex handles SQL notebooks and dashboards with far less engineering overhead.

---

## Bottom line

Hightouch is one of the most capable platforms in the data activation space, and AI Decisioning is a legitimate differentiator for enterprise marketing teams. The $150M Series D and $2.75B valuation reflect genuine commercial traction, not hype.

But this is not a tool for most Australian businesses. It requires a data warehouse, engineering resources, sales-led procurement, and a tolerance for offshore data processing with no Australian region available. Australian data teams at mid-to-large enterprises — retailers, fintechs, loyalty programs — will find it worth evaluating. Everyone else should look elsewhere.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Hightouch have an Australian data region?

No. As of June 2026, Hightouch offers US and EU (AWS EU-West-1 Ireland) regions, but no Australian data region. Australian businesses syncing customer data through Hightouch should assess their obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles regarding cross-border disclosure.

### What does Hightouch cost in Australia?

Hightouch does not publish pricing beyond its free tier (2 active syncs). Paid plans are sales-led with custom quotes. Third-party data suggests median annual contracts around USD $15,000 (approximately AUD $21,000 at the \~1.40 exchange rate), though enterprise deployments with AI Decisioning cost significantly more. All pricing is in USD — no AUD billing option is available.

### What is Hightouch AI Decisioning and is it useful for Australian businesses?

Hightouch AI Decisioning uses reinforcement learning to determine the right message, channel, and timing for each customer. It is designed for large-scale loyalty and retail marketing programs — PetSmart reported a 22% increase in incremental bookings. For most Australian businesses, it requires a pre-existing data warehouse, engineering team, and customer base large enough to generate the training data the model needs. It is relevant primarily to larger Australian retailers, fintechs, and loyalty programs.
