> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Gamma is the fastest way to turn a rough idea into a presentable deck, and on merit the best dedicated AI presentation tool for most Australians — our **Editor's Choice** for the category. One caveat keeps it from a higher rating: it bills in US dollars and stores data in the US, so it doesn't clear our Australian Fit gate. The free tier is genuinely useful; the Plus plan is where it earns its keep.

## What Gamma is

Gamma is an AI presentation tool. You type a prompt — or paste in notes, a document, or a URL — and it generates a full deck: structure, written content, layout, and images. You then edit it in a browser, present it as slides, or share it as a scrolling web page.

It's made by Gamma Tech, Inc., a San Francisco company that launched the product in 2022 and grew into one of the most widely used tools in the category. There is no Australian office and no Australian data centre. For a presentation tool, that matters less than it would for a medical or legal product — but it still shapes the verdict, and we cover it below.

In the Australian market, Gamma's real competition isn't PowerPoint. It's the blank slide. Most small-business owners and consultants don't avoid decks because they lack software — they avoid them because building one from scratch eats an afternoon. Gamma's pitch is that it gives you 80% of a finished deck in two minutes. On that promise, it largely delivers.

## What it costs in Australia

Gamma bills in US dollars. There is no AUD pricing on the checkout, no currency control on the page, and no AUD figure anywhere in it — re-checked in a browser from an Australian IP on 21 September 2026\. At roughly **A$1.40 per US$1**, the converted figures below are indicative — your card's exchange rate and any foreign-transaction fee will move them by a few per cent.

| Plan | Price (USD) | Approx AUD/mo | What you get |

**GST:** As an overseas digital supplier selling to Australian consumers, Gamma is required to add 10% GST once it passes the A$75,000 threshold. Gamma bills in USD, so GST is handled at the checkout rather than shown as a native AUD tax invoice — check the line items at purchase, and keep the receipt if you're claiming it.

For most solo operators and small businesses, the **Plus plan at \~A$12.60/month billed annually** is the sweet spot — it kills the badge and gives you enough credits for regular use. The free tier is the right place to start.

## How it works in practice

The core loop is fast. I gave Gamma a one-line prompt — *"a 10-slide pitch for a Hobart café launching a weekend degustation night"* — and had a structured, on-brand-ish deck in **under two minutes**: title slide, problem, concept, menu format, pricing, marketing, and a closing call to action. The writing was competent and needed trimming rather than rewriting.

The more useful workflow for business users is **paste-to-deck**. Drop in a Word doc, a set of meeting notes, or a long email, and Gamma reshapes it into slides. For anyone who already has the content and just needs it to look presentable, this is the feature that saves the afternoon.

Editing happens in a clean browser editor built on "cards" rather than rigid slides. You restyle the whole deck with one theme click, and the **"refresh"** function regenerates a single card's text or layout without touching the rest. Image generation is built in, and on Plus and above you can choose better image models.

Output is flexible: present full-screen, export to PDF or PowerPoint (.pptx), or — Gamma's signature move — publish as a responsive web page with its own link and view analytics. That last format is where Gamma genuinely beats PowerPoint for sharing.

The credit system is the catch to understand. AI generation spends credits; editing an existing deck doesn't. Free-tier credits don't refresh, so heavy users will hit the wall and need Plus.

## What it does well

- **Speed from zero.** A usable first-draft deck in roughly two minutes from a single prompt. Nothing in this category is meaningfully faster.
- **Paste-to-deck.** Turning existing notes or documents into slides is the standout feature for time-poor business users.
- **Sharing as a web page.** The link-and-analytics format is better for sending a deck to a client than a 30 MB PowerPoint attachment.
- **Genuinely useful free tier.** You can produce real work without paying — rare in this category, where rivals hide everything behind a trial.
- **One-click restyling.** Changing the whole deck's look is instant, which lowers the bar for non-designers.

## What it doesn't do well

- **No AUD pricing and US data storage.** You pay in US dollars, and your content sits on US infrastructure. For a public marketing deck that's fine; for anything commercially sensitive, factor it in.
- **Fine layout control is limited.** The card system is fast but opinionated. If you want pixel-precise placement, you'll fight it — Beautiful.ai or PowerPoint give you more control.
- **The "AI look."** Default outputs can feel same-y. Without your own brand fonts and colours (Pro tier), decks can read as obviously AI-generated.
- **Credit anxiety.** The credit model is fair but adds a mental tax — you ration generations rather than experiment freely unless you're on a high tier.
- **Exports aren't perfect.** PowerPoint export mostly holds up, but complex layouts can shift, so budget time to tidy after exporting.

## Australian fit

**Pricing:** USD only — no AUD option at checkout. Budget for currency conversion and a possible foreign-transaction fee.

**Data residency:** Content is stored on US-based infrastructure. Gamma is **not** AU-hosted, and publishes no Australian data-residency commitment — assume offshore (US) hosting. For presentation content this is usually low-stakes, but don't put client financials or unreleased IP into a public deck without thinking it through.

**GST:** Gamma bills in USD; the 10% GST is added at the checkout, not shown as a native AUD invoice. Retain the receipt for your BAS if claiming.

**Support:** Help centre and email-based support, run on US hours. There is no AU phone line — community and documentation carry most of the load.

**AU-aware outputs:** Gamma writes in whatever English you prompt it in. Ask for Australian spelling and AUD figures and it complies; it won't default to them. Always proof for "color"/"colour" drift before sending.

On balance, Gamma is available and works well here, but it's clearly built for the US/global market: USD-only billing, US data storage, no AU support, unconfirmed GST. On our Australian Fit scale that's a **3/5 — AU-compatible, not AU-first**. For comparison, [Canva](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/canva-magic-studio-review-australia-2026/) — Sydney-built and AUD-billed — earns a 4/5; it's the only tool in this category that clears our Australian Fit gate, and it's our category Top Pick.

## Alternatives

- [**Plus AI**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/review-plus-ai-australia-2026/) — consider this if you live in Google Slides or PowerPoint and don't want to move your decks into a new app.
- [**Beautiful.ai**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/review-beautiful-ai-australia-2026/) — consider this if brand consistency and tidy auto-layout matter more than raw speed.
- [**Canva Magic Studio**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/canva-magic-studio-review-australia-2026/) — consider this if you want an Australian-built all-rounder that does presentations alongside everything else, with AUD billing.

## Bottom line

Gamma is the best dedicated deck tool we have tested and the default recommendation for most Australians who need to make presentations and don't want it to take all day. It's the best tool here on merit — but note it doesn't clear our Australian Fit gate (USD-only, US data), so it isn't our formal gated Top Pick. The free tier proves the value before you spend a cent, and the Plus plan — about A$12.60 a month billed annually — removes the badge and the friction.

It's not perfect. You pay in US dollars, your data lives in the US, and the fast card system trades fine control for speed. If keeping data onshore is a hard requirement, look at Canva first. If you need precise design control, Beautiful.ai or plain PowerPoint will serve you better.

But for the core job — getting from idea to a sharp, shareable deck in minutes — nothing else in the category is this quick. In the next six months, expect Gamma to keep widening its model lead; the open question for Australians remains whether it ever offers local billing or data residency.

*Australian Fit gate: at Australian Fit 3/5, Gamma does not clear the gate — so it cannot be our formal category Top Pick or wear five stars, however strong it is on the other criteria. We name it the best dedicated deck tool in the category on merit — deliberately not “Editor's Choice”, which on this site is the gated category badge and cannot be worn by a tool that fails the gate;* [*Canva*](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/canva-magic-studio-review-australia-2026/) *(Australian Fit 4/5) is the only tool here that clears the gate and is our category Top Pick. Update history
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Wording corrected: Gamma is not our “Editor's Choice”, because that badge is gated and Gamma does not clear the gate.** This review called Gamma “our Editor's Choice for the category” while also stating, correctly, that at Australian Fit 3/5 it fails the Australian Fit gate and that Canva is the formal Top Pick. Both statements were honest on their own, but **“Editor's Choice” is already the name of the gated badge**: it is computed with the gate in the directory manifest, and `page-editors-choice` lists exactly the 26 tools that clear it. Gamma is not among them, so the review and the directory tile contradicted each other in public, and a reader who went looking for Gamma on the Editor's Choice page would not have found it. Gamma is now called **the best dedicated deck tool** in the category, which is what was always meant. **Nothing about the tool or the assessment changes** — same 20/25, same Australian Fit 3/5, still the best on merit, and Canva remains the Top Pick. Checked across all 666 reviews: this was the only file using the phrase this way.
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Gamma has repriced and dropped a tier; the currency claim was right and every figure was stale.** Checked in a browser from an Australian IP: still US dollars, no currency control, no AUD anywhere on the page — the review's "USD only" was correct and `aud_native: false` is now explicit. The numbers were not. **Plus is now US$9/seat/month billed annually (US$108/yr) or US$12 monthly, was US$8 annual / US$10 monthly. Pro is now US$18 annual (US$216/yr) or US$25 monthly, was US$15 / US$20\. Ultra is now US$90 annual (US$1,080/yr) or US$100 monthly, was US$100 flat. Business is US$40/seat/month (US$480/seat/yr), unchanged.** The **Team tier at US$20/seat has been removed** — the Business tab now offers Business and Enterprise only. ## Frequently asked questions

### Is Gamma available in Australia?

Yes. It's a San Francisco web product that works fully from Australia — there's just no Australian office or data centre.

### Does Gamma charge in AUD?

No. Gamma bills in US dollars with no AUD option at checkout. As an overseas digital supplier it adds 10% GST at the checkout rather than as a native AUD tax invoice — check the line items and keep the receipt if you're claiming.

### Is there a free plan?

Yes, and it's genuinely useful — 400 starter AI credits, unlimited basic decks, with a Gamma badge on shared work. It's the right place to start before paying.

### Which plan should I buy?

For most solo operators and small businesses, the Plus plan at about A$12.40/month billed annually is the sweet spot — it removes the badge and gives enough refreshing credits for regular use.

### Where is my data stored?

On US-based infrastructure. Gamma is not AU-hosted and publishes no Australian data-residency commitment. Fine for a public marketing deck; think twice before putting client financials or unreleased IP into one.
