> **Verdict (TL;DR):** foundU is an Australian workforce management and payroll platform that does something most of its competitors refuse to: it publishes its prices. Starting from AUD $3.25 per active user per week (exclusive of GST), it covers the operational workforce management stack — onboarding, rostering, time and attendance, payroll, leave, and superannuation — with Modern Award compliance baked in and data hosted in AWS Sydney. What foundU is not is an AI-first platform. It does not have an AI content editor, an NLP analytics engine, or machine learning-driven insights. It is well-built, honestly priced workforce software for Australian businesses with shift-based or variable workforces. If that is what you need, it delivers well. If you need sophisticated people analytics or performance management, look elsewhere.

## What foundU is

foundU is an Australian workforce management and payroll platform founded and headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland. It is privately held and targets Australian businesses with shift-based, seasonal, or variable workforces — labour hire, childcare, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, and cleaning are the primary industries listed on its website.

The platform covers: employee onboarding (digital, with VEVO checks and contract generation), rostering, time and attendance (including geo-fenced clock-in), payroll (with Modern Award interpretation and STP compliance), leave management, earned wage access, employee self-service app, and invoicing for labour-hire businesses. An expense management module and document library round out the core.

foundU does not offer performance management, engagement surveys, learning management, or recruitment/ATS features natively. It positions these as integration add-ons via its partner ecosystem.

The product targets businesses from 25 to several hundred employees. Below 25 employees, a minimum charge of AUD $100 per week (or $400 per month) applies regardless.

---

## What it costs in Australia

foundU publishes transparent, AUD-native pricing — a genuine rarity in this category.

**Weekly pricing (for businesses with flexible/variable workforces):** | Plan | Price (AUD, ex-GST) | What you get | |------|---------------------|--------------| | Essential | **A$3.25** per active user per week | Onboarding, scheduling, payroll, reporting; 1 on-site clock app; up to 5 rosters | | Everyday | **A$3.75** per active user per week | Everything in Essential + unlimited roster & clock installs, Implementation Manager, Customer Success Manager | | Performance | Quote | Everything in Everyday + SSO, API Centre, full support, customised training |

*Minimum charge A$100 per week or A$400 per month regardless of headcount; SMS charges A$0.05 each. Table added 24 September 2026 from figures already in this review, re-confirmed against `foundu.com.au/pricing` the same day — no new claim. foundU states it plainly on the page: “All amounts excl. GST. Charged and billed in Australian dollars.” No conversion applies.*

- Essential: AUD $3.25 per active user per week
- Everyday: AUD $3.75 per active user per week
- Performance: Quote-only

**Monthly pricing (for businesses with stable workforces):** \- Essential: AUD $12.00 per active user per month - Everyday: AUD $15.00 per active user per month - Performance: Quote-only

Minimum charge: AUD $100 per week or AUD $400 per month (applies when fewer than 25 active users).

SMS charges: AUD $0.05 per SMS.

All pricing is exclusive of GST. Billed in Australian dollars. (Source: foundu.com.au/pricing, checked 26 June 2026)

The "active user" model is smart for variable workforces: you only pay for employees who actually worked (had a timesheet, draft payslip, finalised payslip, or right to be paid) in that week or month. A seasonal business with 200 summer staff and 30 winter staff pays proportionally.

Annual pre-payment discounts are available on request.

**What the tiers include:** \- Essential: Onboarding, 1 on-site clock app, up to 5 rosters, financial and workforce reporting, self-managed data migration, STP compliance, payslips, superannuation payments - Everyday: Everything in Essential plus unlimited rosters and clocks, implementation manager, dedicated customer success manager, configurable onboarding, award testing - Performance: Everything in Everyday plus SSO, API centre access, custom training, managed implementation, bi-annual consultations

## How it works in practice

The foundU model is operational rather than strategic. It is designed to eliminate the administrative friction of managing a shift-based workforce in Australia.

**Onboarding** is fully digital. A new employee completes their onboarding journey on their phone — personal details, tax file number, bank account, visa (VEVO) check, RSA, digital signature on contracts. No paper, no scanning. The data flows directly into rostering and payroll.

**Rostering** uses drag-and-drop scheduling with real-time wage cost visibility. The system shows the cost of each shift as you build the roster. Up to 5 rosters on Essential; unlimited on Everyday and Performance. Multi-site supported.

**Time and attendance** uses geo-fenced clock-in via the employee app or on-site clock devices. Approved timesheets go straight to payroll — no re-keying.

**Payroll** is the product's strongest suit. foundU owns its award interpretation engine rather than licensing it, which means it can update the engine when awards change. Modern Award compliance, STP filing, super payments, EOFY reconciliations, and payroll tax reporting are all covered.

**Earned wage access** (rewardU / WageFlo) lets employees access a portion of their earned wages before payday at no cost to the business.

**AI:** foundU does not make significant AI claims, and we will not make them on its behalf. The platform offers "workforce analytics" — reporting and dashboards built on the operational data flowing through the system. There is no NLP query engine, no machine learning-driven insights, no AI content editor. The analytics are structured reports, not AI. This is honest and appropriate for what foundU is.

## What it does well

**Published AUD pricing with no surprises.** The pricing page is a full feature comparison table — you know exactly what you are getting at each tier and what it costs before you talk to anyone. This is rare and valuable.

**Data hosted in AWS Sydney, confirmed.** "foundU is hosted exclusively in AWS Sydney, spread across three Availability Zones. We also keep off cloud, on premise backups. No data is stored outside of Australian borders." (Source: foundu.com.au/trust-centre, checked 26 June 2026.) Blunt and unambiguous.

**ISO 27001:2022 certified.** (Source: foundu.com.au/trust-centre, checked 26 June 2026.)

**Modern Award compliance is owned, not licensed.** foundU builds and maintains its award interpretation engine in-house. When the Fair Work Commission updates a Modern Award, foundU updates its engine. This matters more than it sounds for businesses with complex Award obligations.

**STP Phase 2 compliant.** Super payments via the platform. EOFY support built in.

**Active-user pricing model suits seasonal and shift-based businesses.** You are not paying for employees who are not working.

**The invoice feature.** Labour-hire businesses can generate client invoices directly from payroll data. This is genuinely useful for agencies and contractors.

**Local support, 7 days a week.** Phone and email support included in all plans. Phone support is available — that is worth noting.

---

## What it doesn't do well

**No AI to speak of.** foundU does not have AI-powered analytics, an AI content editor, automated performance reviews, or any ML-driven features. The platform's website mentions "workforce analytics" — these are dashboards and reports, not AI. If AI is the reason you are reading this review, foundU is not the right tool.

**No performance management.** There are no performance reviews, goal tracking, OKRs, or engagement surveys in the product. These are available via integrations (foundU's partner ecosystem) but are not native.

**No recruitment/ATS.** Hiring happens outside the platform.

**No learning management.** Training and compliance eLearning require a third-party integration.

**The minimum fee hurts very small businesses.** A business with 10 employees that does not need weekly scheduling still pays AUD $400 per month minimum — AUD $4,800 per year. That is reasonable for what you get, but it is a real cost for small operators.

**The Performance tier requires a quote.** The most sophisticated features (SSO, API centre, custom training, bi-annual consultations) are behind a sales conversation. This is standard practice, but it limits self-serve evaluation.

**This software does not replace qualified HR or legal advice.** Award compliance tools reduce risk — they do not eliminate it. Enterprise agreements, individual flexible arrangements, and employment disputes require qualified HR professionals and employment lawyers.

## Australian fit

| -------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| AUD billing | Yes — confirmed on pricing page; "Charged and billed in Australian dollars" |
| Data residency | Confirmed: AWS Sydney only; no data stored outside AU borders (trust-centre page) |
| Fair Work compliance | Yes — Modern Award interpretation engine owned and maintained in-house |
| STP compliance | Yes — STP Phase 2 |
| Superannuation | Yes — super payments via platform |
| GST | Pricing is "excl. GST" (confirmed on pricing page) |
| AU support | Yes — phone + email 7 days a week, Brisbane-based team |
| ISO 27001:2022 | Confirmed (source: foundu.com.au/trust-centre, checked 26 June 2026) |

foundU's Australian fit is excellent. The pricing is in AUD, the data never leaves Australia, the award compliance engine is built and maintained in-house, and support is local. This is what an Australian-built workforce platform should look like.

## Alternatives

**Deputy** — the most direct comparison for shift-based Australian businesses. Reviewed: \[review-deputy-australia-2026-06-26.md\]. Deputy is strong on rostering and time and attendance but requires separate payroll integration. foundU's advantage is owning payroll natively.

**Tanda** — another Australian workforce management platform with emphasis on award compliance and time and attendance. Reviewed: \[review-tanda-australia-2026-06-26.md\].

**Employment Hero** — broader HR platform with payroll for salaried and hourly employees, but more expensive for variable workforces. Reviewed: \[review-employment-hero-australia-2026-06-03.md\].

**Roubler** — direct competitor targeting similar shift-based industries. See our review: \[review-roubler-australia-2026-06-26.md\].

## Bottom line

foundU earns its place in this review because it does the hard things well: payroll, award compliance, data residency, and transparent pricing. These are foundational for any Australian workforce management platform and foundU gets all of them right.

The trade-off is clear: foundU is an operational tool, not a strategic people platform. If you manage a shift-based workforce of 25–500 people, need accurate Modern Award payroll, and want data kept in Australia, foundU is a strong choice. If you need AI-driven analytics, performance management, or engagement tools, you need a different product (or a partner integration).
