> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Forethought is a serious, capable agentic support platform that can fully resolve a large share of customer tickets without a human. But it sells on quote-only "outcome-based" contracts that buyers report landing around US$40k–US$160k a year, bills in US dollars, and hosts data in the US with no Australian region. For most Australian small businesses, it's powerful gear pointed at the wrong customer. Big AU contact centres on Zendesk or Salesforce should shortlist it; everyone else should look smaller.

## What Forethought is

Forethought is a US-based AI platform that automates customer support. It sits on top of your existing helpdesk — Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom, Gorgias and around 70 others — rather than replacing it.

It runs as four connected AI agents. **Solve** is the front-line bot that answers customers and resolves issues end to end across chat, email, voice, SMS and Slack. **Triage** classifies and routes the tickets Solve can't finish, tagging by sentiment, language and urgency. **Assist** is a copilot that summarises tickets and drafts replies for your human agents. **Discover** mines all your support conversations for gaps and auto-writes help articles.

The engine Forethought sells hardest is "Autoflows" — its agentic workflow builder. Instead of you drawing decision trees by hand, Autoflows generates the resolution logic from plain-language descriptions of your policies. That's the genuinely modern part: it reasons through a refund or returns policy rather than following a rigid script.

This is enterprise software. It's not a $30-a-month chatbot widget you bolt onto a Shopify store.

## What it costs in Australia

There is no published price. Forethought does not list a single dollar figure on its pricing page — every tier says "Get a Quote."

| Plan | What's included | Price |

| Professional ("Most popular") | Everything in Team + email, voice, Slack, AI-surfaced insights, multi-brand (up to 20), custom handoff models | Quote only |
| Enterprise | Everything in Professional + Solve API, knowledge-gap detection, Analytics API, advanced security controls | Quote only |

Source: [forethought.ai/pricing](https://forethought.ai/pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au), checked 20 June 2026\. The pricing page states the model is "a blend of platform access fees and an outcome-based pricing cost" — meaning you pay partly for access and partly per resolved ticket or handoff.

**What you'll actually pay:** Forethought doesn't disclose it, so the only figures available are second-hand. Third-party procurement marketplaces — not Forethought — put typical annual contracts in the **US$40,000–US$160,000** range, with a reported median near **US$59,500**. At that midpoint, you're looking at roughly **US$59,500/yr (\~A$83,300 ex GST)** on a US$1 ≈ A$1.40 basis. These are aggregator estimates, so treat them as a budgeting ballpark, not a quote — and note GST is likely added on top as a reverse-charge import (see below).

**AUD and GST:** There is no AUD billing. Contracts are USD, so your final cost moves with the exchange rate, and you'll likely handle GST as a reverse-charge on an imported service. Confirm the tax treatment with your accountant before signing.

There's no free trial. Instead Forethought runs a "Proof of Value" — it deploys against your real data to show results before you commit. Useful, but it means a sales process, not a sign-up.

## How it works in practice

You connect Forethought to your helpdesk and point it at your knowledge base. Discover reads your historical tickets and surfaces the common intents. You then build Autoflows by describing your policies in natural language, and Solve starts handling live conversations — resolving what it can, handing the rest to Triage for routing, and feeding Assist to your human agents.

The headline numbers Forethought publishes are strong: **up to 98% resolution rate**, **15x ROI**, and one customer case study showing **80% ticket deflection** ([forethought.ai/platform/solve](https://forethought.ai/platform/solve?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). Read those as best-case vendor figures — the "up to" is doing real work. Your result depends entirely on how clean your knowledge base is and how repetitive your tickets are.

The practical reality: this is a multi-week implementation with a sales and onboarding process attached, not a same-afternoon setup. That's appropriate for a 40-agent contact centre. It's overkill for a five-person team.

## What it does well

- **Genuine end-to-end resolution.** Solve doesn't just deflect to an article — it can take actions like processing a refund through Custom Actions. That's a real step beyond first-generation FAQ bots.
- **Autoflows cut the build work.** Generating workflows from plain-language policy descriptions, instead of hand-drawing decision trees, is a real time saver for complex support logic.
- **It layers onto your existing stack.** With \~70 integrations including Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom and Gorgias, you keep your helpdesk and add AI on top.
- **Strong compliance posture.** SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA, plus a default PII/PHI redaction model ([Forethought security blog](https://forethought.ai/blog/how-forethought-offers-enhanced-privacy-and-security?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). That matters for regulated AU sectors.
- **One platform, four jobs.** Bot, routing, agent copilot and insights in a single system reduces tool sprawl for larger teams.

## What it doesn't do well

- **No price transparency at all.** Zero published figures means you can't budget without entering a sales pipeline. For a busy operator comparing five tools on a Tuesday afternoon, that's a hard wall.
- **No AUD billing, exchange-rate exposure.** You're quoted and billed in USD. A falling Aussie dollar quietly inflates a contract you've already signed.
- **No Australian data residency.** Forethought's published approach leans on default sensitive-data redaction plus data-transfer agreements and international security accreditations, rather than offering region-specific or in-country storage ([security blog](https://forethought.ai/blog/how-forethought-offers-enhanced-privacy-and-security?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). Its own pages name no Australian hosting region. For AU government, health or finance buyers with data-sovereignty rules, that absence is a real obstacle — and if local residency is mandatory, you'd need to confirm the position directly with Forethought.
- **Built for enterprise, priced for enterprise.** With contracts reportedly starting around US$40k/yr, this is out of reach for the small businesses most of our readers run.
- **No local support presence.** Forethought's public pages point to no Australian-based support team or AEST-hours coverage, so plan around US-timezone support — a friction point for AU operators who need help during the local business day.

## Australian fit

This is where Forethought struggles for our readers, and it's our defining criterion.

There's no AUD pricing, no published pricing at all, no confirmed Australian data residency, and no confirmed local support. The redaction-first approach is a reasonable compliance answer, but it's not the same as hosting your customers' data in Australia — and for sovereignty-bound buyers, hosting location is the question that matters.

The product itself is global and capable. But "works in Australia" and "built for Australians" are different things. Forethought is the former. An AU enterprise on Zendesk can absolutely run it; a Melbourne small business cannot justify it.

This tool doesn't replace qualified professional advice — confirm GST treatment and any data-sovereignty obligations with your accountant or legal adviser before signing a USD enterprise contract.

## Alternatives

- **Intercom Fin** — Published per-resolution pricing, far easier to start, and a better fit for mid-size AU teams that want transparency.
- **Zendesk AI** — If you're already on Zendesk, the native AI add-on avoids a second vendor and a second contract.
- **Tidio** — For small AU businesses, a low-cost, self-serve chatbot that you can switch on the same day.

## Bottom line

Forethought is good technology aimed at a customer most of our readers aren't. If you run a large Australian contact centre on Zendesk or Salesforce, have the ticket volume to justify a five- or six-figure USD contract, and can live with US hosting, shortlist it and run the Proof of Value — the resolution capability is real.

For everyone else — and that's the majority of Australian small businesses — the quote-only USD pricing, the absence of Australian data residency, and the enterprise scale make this the wrong call. Start with something transparent, AUD-friendly and self-serve, and graduate to a platform like this only when your volume genuinely demands it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Forethought available in Australia?

Yes. The product is global and an Australian enterprise on Zendesk or Salesforce can run it. But "works in Australia" isn't "built for Australians" — there's no local data residency or confirmed AU support.

### Does Forethought charge in AUD?

No. Contracts are billed in US dollars, so your cost moves with the exchange rate, and you'll likely handle GST as a reverse-charge on an imported service. Confirm the tax treatment with your accountant.

### How much does Forethought cost?

Nothing is published — every tier is "Get a Quote." Third-party procurement marketplaces (not Forethought) put typical contracts at US$40,000–US$160,000 a year, around US$59,500 median. Treat that as a ballpark, not a quote.

### Is there a free trial?

No. Instead Forethought runs a "Proof of Value" — it deploys against your real data to show results before you commit. That means a sales process, not a sign-up.

### Should an Australian small business use Forethought?

No. It's enterprise gear pointed at the wrong customer. Shortlist it only if you run a large AU contact centre with the volume to justify a five- or six-figure USD contract; everyone else should look smaller.
