**Launched:** 2 April 2026 · **Reviewed:** 3 April 2026 · **Score: 19/25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good**

> **Verdict in one line:** The boldest interface bet in developer tools this year — brilliant if you're ready to manage a team of agents, disorienting if you just wanted a better autocomplete.

## What launched

On 2 April 2026 Anysphere shipped **Cursor 3**, the biggest overhaul since Cursor launched in 2023\. The headline is the **Agents Window**: a pane beside the familiar IDE where you run **multiple AI agents in parallel** — across your local machine, git worktrees, cloud sandboxes and SSH environments — and supervise them from one place. It's Cursor's direct answer to Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex.

## What it does

The design assumes agents write most of the code and your job is orchestration: brief several agents, let them work isolated branches, review and merge. Under the hood, Cursor's "self-summarisation" trains the model to compress its own context (5,000+ tokens down to \~1,000), which the company says halves compaction errors on long-running tasks.

## Pricing for Australians

Unchanged from Cursor's existing ladder: **Hobby free, Pro US$20/month (\~A$28), Pro+ US$60 (\~A$84), Ultra US$200 (\~A$280)**, Teams at US$40/user. Billing is USD; agents burn plan credits, and parallel agents burn them in parallel — budget accordingly. Annual billing takes 20% off.

| Plan | USD per month | Approx. AUD per month, ex-GST (1.40, Sep 2026) |
| ----- | -------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Hobby | Free | Free |
| Pro | US$20 | \~A$28 |
| Pro+ | US$60 | \~A$84 |
| Ultra | US$200 | \~A$280 |
| Teams | US$40 per user | \~A$56 per user |

Cursor's pricing page states that all prices are exclusive of applicable taxes, so a GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN pays the converted figure; an unregistered buyer should allow about 10 per cent on top. Re-read at [cursor.com/pricing](https://cursor.com/pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) on 28 September 2026: the page's own structured data lists the same five offers in USD.

## Australian Fit

Fully usable from Australia with no regional limits, and cloud agents run fine from AEST latitudes. The familiar caveats: USD billing, US-hosted cloud sandboxes, no AU data residency commitment — relevant if your codebase embeds client data. 3/5.

## Early read

**Good:** parallel agents on real worktrees is the correct architecture, not a demo trick; the context self-compression visibly reduces the long-task derailment that plagued 2025 agents. **Not so good:** the interface now assumes you think like an engineering manager — solo devs and beginners face a steeper ramp than Cursor 2; parallel agent runs make spend less predictable; and reviewing four agents' diffs honestly takes longer than the marketing implies.

## Early verdict

Teams already deep in Cursor should upgrade and learn the Agents Window deliberately — it compounds. Developers choosing their first AI coding tool should weigh Cursor 3 against Claude Code and GitHub Copilot; the right answer now depends on whether you want an agent fleet or a careful pair programmer.

Update history
- **9 Oct 2026** — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#397), cursor.com/pricing read in a browser on an Australian connection: the ladder in the table stands — Hobby free, Pro US$20, Pro+ US$60, Ultra US$200 a month, Teams US$40 per user, and yearly billing still takes 20% off (US$16 / US$48 / US$160 / US$32). Bare `$` with no currency label; `aud_native: false` stands. New since this first look: a **Teams Premium** tier at US$120 per user a month (US$96 yearly) sits above the US$40 Standard seat; it is recorded here and belongs to the current [Cursor review](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/cursor-review-australia-2026/). Capture: `Dossiers/captures/cursor-pricing-2026-10-09.txt`.
- **28 Sep 2026** — **Pricing table added; the directory tile was blank for want of one.** The ladder was already in this review as prose, and the parent Cursor review's tile has read A$28/mo since 21 September, but this page published no pipe table for the tile to read, so it showed no price. Re-read at cursor.com/pricing today: Hobby free, Pro US$20, Pro+ US$60, Ultra US$200, Teams US$40 per user, all USD and exclusive of taxes, exactly as the page's structured data lists them. No figure changed; no score change. [Source](https://cursor.com/pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Directory flag corrected: `aud_native: false`.** The generated directory was showing this tool as ***\* billing in Australian dollars while this review says the opposite — its own FAQ answers “Does Cursor 3 charge in AUD?” with No. The manifest value was a guess: `has_aud` is inferred by a heuristic when no explicit flag is set, and the heuristic had it backwards here. The flag is now set in frontmatter, which is authoritative and overrides the inference.* \*Nothing about the tool changed and no price, claim or score moves** — this is the directory being brought into line with the review, not the other way round. Found by `check-aud-claims.py` (sentry 15), written today after four vendors were found misdescribed on currency.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Cursor 3 available in Australia?

Yes. It's fully usable from Australia with no regional limits, and cloud agents run fine from AEST latitudes. The caveats are data-related, not access-related.

### Does Cursor 3 charge in AUD?

No. Billing is in US dollars, unchanged from Cursor's existing ladder: Hobby free, Pro US$20/mo (\~A$28), Pro+ US$60 (\~A$84), Ultra US$200 (\~A$280), Teams US$40/user. Annual billing takes 20% off.

### Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Hobby tier is free. Note that agents burn plan credits, and parallel agents burn them in parallel — so budget carefully if you run an agent fleet.

### Who should upgrade to Cursor 3?

Teams already deep in Cursor — the Agents Window compounds. Solo devs and beginners face a steeper ramp than Cursor 2, since the interface now assumes you think like an engineering manager. There's no AU data residency commitment, relevant if your codebase embeds client data.
