(House rule: any review over six months old carries this flag until it is updated.) ## What launched > **Renamed — noted 20 September 2026.** Anthropic has folded Cowork back into the main product. claude.com now reads: "Claude Cowork is now just Claude. Rolling out to Pro and Max, with more plans to follow." This first look is kept under its launch name. In January 2026 Anthropic released **Cowork**, a research preview inside the Claude desktop app that points Claude Code's agentic engine at general knowledge work instead of programming. You give it a task — "reconcile these three spreadsheets," "turn this folder of notes into a board summary" — and it works across your local files and applications until it hands back a finished deliverable. ## What it does Cowork moves between local files, folders and the applications you already use, synthesising across sources and completing multi-step tasks without you coordinating each step. Anthropic's stated target is exactly our readership: researchers, analysts, operations, legal and finance people — workers who live in documents and data, not terminals. It is the difference between asking a question and delegating a job. ## Pricing for Australians Cowork is included with **paid Claude plans** at no separate fee. Anthropic now prices Australians in dollars: Pro is **A$28/month on annual billing (A$340 up front) or A$34 month-to-month**, and Max starts at **A$170.01/month**. Anthropic's footer states "Prices include 10% GST". At launch this was USD-only billing at US$20/month. ## Australian Fit Claude is fully available in Australia, and Cowork worked here from day one. Billing is now in Australian dollars with GST included — a real improvement on the USD-only launch. The caveat that remains: there is no Australian data residency story for consumer plans, so your files are processed offshore. The first-look 3/5 stands until a full re-score. ## Early read **Good:** it does whole tasks, not answers; it works on your real files instead of pasted text; it inherits Claude Code's proven agent loop. **Not so good:** research-preview rough edges, and giving an agent the run of your file system deserves more caution than the onboarding suggests — point it at a project folder, not your whole drive. ## Early verdict If you're an Australian business user already paying for Claude, turn Cowork on this week. It's the first agent product built for people who don't code, from the company whose coding agent set the standard.
