> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Ashby is one of the most thoughtfully built all-in-one ATS platforms available right now — particularly for mid-sized tech-forward companies that hire at volume. The AI is genuinely useful, not bolted on, and the responsible-AI disclosure is among the best in the category. The problems for Australian employers are familiar: US-hosted data, no confirmed SEEK integration, sales-led pricing above the entry level, and no Australian-specific compliance framing. Worth a serious look if you're a scaling tech business. Harder to justify if SEEK pipeline access is central to your hiring strategy.

## What Ashby is

Ashby is an all-in-one recruiting platform built in San Francisco by Ashby, Inc. It launched publicly around 2021 and has grown rapidly among technology companies and startups, with notable customers including Replit, Lovable, ElevenLabs, Harvey AI, Quora, and Multiverse. The pitch is simple: instead of stitching together a separate ATS, CRM, scheduling tool, analytics layer, and AI outreach add-on, Ashby puts all of it in one platform.

The three product tiers are **All-In-One Foundations** (up to 100 employees), **All-In-One Plus** (101–1,000 employees), and **All-In-One Enterprise** (1,000+ employees). There is also a standalone **Ashby Analytics** product for teams that want advanced reporting on top of an existing ATS.

Optional paid add-ons sit on top of each tier: **Advanced Scheduling Automation** and an **AI Notetaker** that records, transcribes, and summarises interviews.

The AI capabilities run through the entire platform rather than being confined to a single "AI feature." That is the meaningful differentiator against older ATS players.

---

## What it costs in Australia

Ashby publishes a starting price for the Foundations plan: **USD $400/month** for companies up to 100 employees (10% discount for annual commitment). That converts to approximately **AUD $560/month** at the \~1.40 exchange rate as of September 2026\. GST treatment is not published by the vendor. Under ATO rules a GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow about 10% on top.

Above the Foundations tier, pricing is sales-led and based on company size, usage, and commitment. Ashby does not publish Plus or Enterprise pricing publicly. Expect a negotiated annual contract.

**The practical reality for Australian buyers:** you will need to contact Ashby's sales team for a quote unless you are a sub-100-employee business. "Emerging market pricing" is mentioned on the pricing page — worth asking about if your AUD budget is tight.

---

## How it works in practice

The core product is an ATS that tracks candidates through a customisable pipeline. Alongside that sits a CRM for managing talent pools and outreach sequences. Scheduling automation connects with Google Calendar and Outlook. The analytics layer is more capable than most ATS competitors — you can build custom reports, track pipeline health by stage, and measure source quality.

The AI features that distinguish Ashby are worth running through:

**AI-Assisted Application Review** screens inbound applications against criteria you define. The AI surfaces which applicants match — it does not rank them numerically or make a final call. Citations are shown for every output so you can verify what the AI is reacting to. Candidates can be notified of AI use and given an opt-out.

**Ashby Assistant** is an in-platform chat agent with access to your full recruiting data. You can ask it to analyse pipelines, update candidate records, or draft communications. It also works via Slack.

**AI Talent Rediscovery** scans your existing candidate database and matches past applicants to new roles, surfacing silver medallists and warm leads with personalised outreach tokens.

**AI-generated personalisation tokens** for outreach emails and LinkedIn messages pull from candidate work history and job details. Ashby reports a 46% lift in reply rates from AI-personalised campaigns (source: Ashby Talent Trend Reports — their own data, treat with appropriate scepticism).

**AI-Assisted Report Builder** lets you describe the data you want in plain language and generates the report.

**AI Notetaker** (add-on) records and transcribes interviews, then generates summaries.

None of this replaces the recruiter's judgement. That is stated explicitly in the product and reflected in the design.

---

## What it does well

**Responsible AI disclosure is genuinely good.** Ashby's "Pillars of Responsible AI" page is one of the more substantive in the category. It covers accountability, transparency, fairness, safety, and privacy. The AI does not assign numerical scores to candidates. Citations are shown for all AI-generated outputs. PII is redacted before resumes are sent to AI models. Ashby has engaged third-party auditor FairNow to conduct bias audits of screening functionality. Candidate disclosure controls and opt-out tooling are built in.

**The all-in-one architecture is real.** Many ATS platforms claim "all-in-one" but still require third-party tools for scheduling, outreach, or analytics. Ashby genuinely consolidates these in a way that means your recruiting data is not fragmented across six systems.

**The analytics are a genuine strength.** Compared to mid-market ATS competitors, Ashby's reporting is significantly more capable. Hiring funnel analysis, source tracking, and time-to-hire metrics are available without needing a BI tool.

**SOC 2 Type II certified**, Data Privacy Framework certified (EU-U.S., Swiss-U.S., UK extensions). GDPR compliance documentation is available for legal teams.

**Strong customer base in tech.** If you are hiring for technical roles and your candidates are active on LinkedIn and GitHub, Ashby's network is well-suited.

---

## What it doesn't do well

**US-hosted data, no Australian data residency.** Ashby stores and processes data in the United States on AWS. There is no Australian or Asia-Pacific data centre option (not stated by the vendor — whether this has changed — verify directly with Ashby before signing). For organisations with strict data localisation requirements, this is a procurement risk. For Privacy Act purposes, offshore disclosure of personal information requires reasonable steps to ensure equivalent protection under APP 8 — you will need to review the DPA and privacy documentation carefully.

**No confirmed SEEK integration.** SEEK is Australia's dominant job board and the primary source of Australian applicant flow for most employers. The Ashby integrations page lists an extensive partner ecosystem but does not reference SEEK. Without SEEK integration, Australian employers have to manage SEEK job postings separately — which creates a split workflow and means Ashby's analytics will not see your largest inbound channel. Confirm the current integration status directly with Ashby before signing.

**Sales-led pricing above entry level.** If you have more than 100 employees, you cannot get a price without talking to sales. That is not unusual in enterprise ATS, but it makes comparison shopping slow.

**Primarily US/global market focus.** Ashby's content, compliance framing, and customer base are predominantly US and UK. Australian-specific employer compliance — Fair Work Act, Modern Award obligations, PAYG-related offer letter requirements — is not addressed in product documentation.

**ADM transparency under Australian law.** From 10 December 2026, the OAIC's automated decision-making transparency obligation requires APP entities using personal information in ADM that could significantly affect a person's rights or interests to disclose this in their privacy policy (Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024). AI-assisted application review clearly falls within this scope. Ashby provides candidate disclosure controls and opt-out tooling, but the framing is EU AI Act and US law (NY Local Law 144, Colorado SB 24-205). Australian-law-specific documentation is not referenced publicly. You will need to satisfy yourself that the Australian ADM transparency obligation is met via your own privacy policy updates and legal advice.

The Privacy Act 1988 requires that Australian employers handling candidate personal information meet their obligations as a data controller. When using offshore processors, APP 8 applies. The ADM transparency obligation from 10 December 2026 will require disclosure of AI-assisted screening in your privacy policy. Ashby provides the tooling to help — but your lawyers need to confirm the policy language meets Australian law, not just GDPR.

## Alternatives

If Ashby's AU fit concerns are dealbreakers, consider:

- [**Greenhouse**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/greenhouse-ats-review-australia/) — stronger enterprise ATS with broader market presence and a longer AU customer history. SEEK integration available.
- [**Workable**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/workable-review-australia-2026/) — more accessible pricing for smaller teams, SEEK integration confirmed, available in AU.
- [**Manatal**](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/manatal-review-australia/) — SMB-friendly ATS with published AUD pricing, SEEK integration, and lower cost of entry.

---

## Bottom line

Ashby is a genuinely impressive ATS for technology companies that hire at volume and want a single platform to run the entire recruiting workflow. The AI is well-implemented and the responsible-AI posture is better than almost any competitor in the category. For Australian employers, the gap is in localisation: no confirmed SEEK integration, US-only data hosting, and compliance documentation that addresses EU and US law but not Australian law. The upcoming OAIC ADM transparency rule from December 2026 is a specific flag — you will need to do additional work to ensure your use of Ashby's AI-assisted screening is properly disclosed under Australian law.

If you are a scaling Australian tech company already comfortable with US-hosted SaaS and your candidate pool is LinkedIn-first rather than SEEK-first, Ashby is worth a serious evaluation. For most other Australian employers, the localisation gaps are too significant to ignore.

Update history
- **9 Oct 2026** — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#449), ashbyhq.com/pricing read on an Australian connection: the Foundations configurator still totals US$400 a month for companies of up to 100 employees, the upper tiers are still sales-led, and the page shows a bare `$` with no AUD option, so nothing changes and `aud_native: false` stands. Add-ons now listed: SMS at US$90 per 1,000, SSO/SCIM US$100 a month, AI credits by plan. Capture: `Dossiers/captures/ashby-pricing-2026-10-09.txt`.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Ashby available in Australia?

Yes, Ashby is available to Australian employers. However, data is stored and processed in the United States on AWS — there is no Australian data centre. The Foundations plan starts at USD $400/month (approximately AUD $560/month). Australian buyers should verify SEEK integration status and confirm Privacy Act compliance requirements before signing.

### Does Ashby integrate with SEEK?

As at June 2026, Ashby's published integrations page does not confirm a SEEK integration. SEEK is Australia's dominant job board, so this is a significant gap for most Australian hiring teams. Verify the current integration status directly with Ashby before committing to the platform.

### How does Ashby handle AI transparency in hiring decisions?

Ashby's responsible-AI framework is more detailed than most ATS competitors. AI-assisted application review shows citations for all outputs, does not assign numerical rankings to candidates, and provides candidate disclosure controls and opt-out tooling. A third-party bias audit has been conducted by FairNow. Australian employers should note that from 10 December 2026, the OAIC's automated decision-making transparency rule requires disclosure of AI use in hiring in your privacy policy — you will need legal advice to ensure this is met under Australian law.
