> **Verdict (TL;DR):** QuillBot is the writing tool to reach for when you rephrase, tidy and tighten other people's words for a living — students, marketers, support teams, anyone who edits more than they draft from scratch. It started as a paraphraser and grew into a broad suite: a rewriter, grammar checker, summariser, translator, plagiarism and AI detector, citation generator, plus a grab-bag of image and PDF tools. The paraphraser and grammar checker are the parts worth paying for; the rest is convenient, not class-leading. For Australians, the headline is good: QuillBot prices in **native AUD**, with **Premium at AU$12.49/month billed annually** and a free tier that is genuinely usable. The catches are real. It **trains on your text inputs by default** unless you opt out in the browser extension, the pricing page **does not state how GST is handled**, and there is **no Australian data residency or local support**. For an individual editing everyday writing, it's an easy yes. For a business handling client or confidential text, read the data section first.

## What QuillBot is

QuillBot is a writing assistant built around one strong tool and a lot of useful ones around it. The original tool is the **paraphraser**: paste a sentence or paragraph and it rewrites it, with modes that shift the tone from formal to fluent to shortened. Around that sit the rest of the suite — a **grammar checker**, a **summariser**, a **translator**, an **AI humaniser**, an **AI detector** and **AI image detector**, a **plagiarism checker**, and a **citation generator** that handles APA, MLA and Chicago. More recently it has bolted on creation and file tools: an AI image generator and editor, a presentation creator, a background remover, ChatPDF, and a set of PDF and file converters.

It's made by **Learneo, Inc.** — the company behind Course Hero — and claims **more than 35 million users across 180-plus countries**. It runs as a website, browser extensions for Chrome, Edge and Safari, mobile apps for iOS and Android, and desktop apps, so it follows you across the places you write.

The honest framing: QuillBot is wide rather than deep. The paraphraser and grammar checker are the reason most people come, and they do their job well. The image, presentation and PDF extras are handy to have in one place, but each is outclassed by a tool that does only that one thing.

## What it costs in Australia

Here's the part that works in Australians' favour. QuillBot shows **native AUD prices** to Australian visitors rather than a US dollar figure you have to convert. The free tier is real, not a teaser, and Premium is a single, fair monthly number.

| Plan | Price (AUD) | What you get |
| ----------- | ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Free** | AU$0 | Paraphraser and grammar checker with limits, summariser, translator, basic AI detector and citation tools — enough to use daily |
| **Premium** | **AU$12.49/month, billed annually** | Unlimited paraphrasing, all paraphrase modes, faster processing, longer summariser and grammar limits, plagiarism checker and the fuller tool set |
| **Team** | Shown after you start a team plan | Premium features across seats, central billing, and — importantly — **no training on Team Plan inputs** |

*Pricing as of 3 June 2026, from the QuillBot site shown to an Australian visitor (native AUD). QuillBot's help centre states that "prices may automatically adjust based on your location and local currency at checkout," so the AUD figure you see is localised to Australia. QuillBot also offers monthly, quarterly and semi-annual billing, and those are quoted in AUD too — AU$29.95 a month, AU$59.95 a quarter (AU$19.99/month) and AU$119.95 for six months (AU$19.99/month), re-verified 21 September 2026\. The pricing page does not state whether GST is included or added — check the tax line at checkout.*

**Value verdict:** The free tier covers a lot of everyday rephrasing and proofing, so try before you pay. Premium at **AU$12.49/month** is fair for unlimited paraphrasing plus the wider suite, and the native-AUD billing removes the conversion guesswork that dogs most US writing tools. The weak point isn't the price — it's the data terms behind it.

## How it works in practice

Paste your text, pick a mode, and QuillBot rewrites it. The paraphraser is the strongest part: it reliably loosens stiff writing, shortens bloated sentences, or shifts register without mangling meaning, and you can dial how much it changes with a synonym slider. The grammar checker runs in the same window and as a browser extension, catching the everyday spelling, agreement and punctuation slips a busy writer makes. The summariser turns a long article into a short paragraph or a bullet list, and the citation generator saves students real time on reference lists.

The extras are where it thins out. The translator, AI humaniser, AI detector, image generator and PDF tools all work, but none is a reason to choose QuillBot over a specialist — AI detectors in particular are unreliable across the whole market, so treat the score it gives as a hint, not a verdict. The value is having a competent version of each in one tab, not in any one of them being best.

## What it does well

- **A genuinely strong paraphraser.** The core tool rewrites cleanly across tones and lengths, with a synonym slider to control how far it strays — the best part of the suite.
- **A useful, real free tier.** You can do daily rephrasing and proofing without paying, which is rare and welcome.
- **It prices Australians in native AUD.** Premium shows as AU$12.49/month billed annually, localised to Australia — no USD conversion, no exchange-rate guesswork.
- **One tab, many tools.** Paraphraser, grammar, summariser, translator, citations, plagiarism and AI detection, plus image and PDF extras, all in one place.
- **A clear opt-out for sensitive work.** Team Plan inputs are never used for training, and extension users (v4.37.0+) can switch off both input storage and model training.

## What to watch out for

- **It trains on your inputs by default.** Unless you opt out in the extension, QuillBot uses your text to train and improve its AI tools. That's the single most important fact for anyone pasting in client or confidential writing.
- **GST treatment isn't stated.** The pricing page shows AUD but doesn't say whether GST is included or added — check the tax line at checkout before you assume the number is final.
- **No Australian data residency.** Learneo has offices in the United States and India and uses service providers worldwide; there's no AU hosting region.
- **No AU-relevant security certification.** QuillBot lists GDPR, CCPA, PCI DSS, the EU-U.S./Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and a CASA Tier 2 verification — but no SOC 2 or ISO 27001\. That matters if you're buying for an organisation.
- **Wide, not deep.** The image, presentation and PDF tools are convenient but outclassed by specialists, and AI detectors are unreliable across the board.

## Australian fit

- **Available in Australia:** Yes — web, browser extensions, desktop and mobile apps all work in Australia.
- **Pricing in AUD:** **Yes** — native AUD shown to Australian visitors on every billing term: free tier AU$0, Premium AU$12.49/month billed annually (AU$149.95/year), AU$19.99/month on the quarterly or six-month plans, AU$29.95 month-to-month.
- **GST:** Not stated on the pricing page. Check the tax line at the payment screen.
- **Data residency:** None for Australia. Learneo has US and India offices and uses worldwide service providers.
- **Local support:** None AU-specific — help centre and support channels only, no AU office or business hours.
- **Training on your data:** Yes, by default. Individual users can opt out in the extension (v4.37.0+); Team Plan inputs are never used for training.

## Alternatives

| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Grammarly** | If grammar, tone and clarity across everything you write matters more than paraphrasing, with deeper editor integrations. |
| **ChatGPT / Claude** | If you want a general assistant that drafts, rewrites and reasons, not a purpose-built paraphraser and proofreader. |
| **DeepL** | If translation is your real need — a sharper, more accurate translator than QuillBot's built-in one. |

## Bottom line

For an Australian student, marketer or everyday writer who edits more than they draft, QuillBot is an easy recommendation. The paraphraser is genuinely good, the free tier lets you try it properly, and — unusually for a US writing tool — it bills you in plain AUD rather than making you do exchange-rate maths. Start free; if you rephrase and proof every day, **Premium at AU$12.49/month** is fair value and the tier to buy.

It scores 18 rather than higher for honest reasons. It trains on your text by default unless you dig into the extension settings, the pricing page stays quiet on GST, and there's no Australian data residency, no local support and no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 to reassure a cautious business. None of that dents the pick for an individual editing everyday writing — but a business handling client or confidential text should switch off training, or look at a tool with firmer guarantees, before pasting anything sensitive in. We'll refresh this if the pricing, data terms or certifications move.

| Feature Depth | 4/5 | Strong paraphraser and grammar checker plus a wide suite — but the image, presentation and PDF extras are convenient rather than class-leading |
| Australian Fit | 3/5 | Native AUD billing is a real plus, but trains on inputs by default, GST treatment unstated, and no AU data residency, support or local certification |
| Reliability & Support | 3/5 | 35M-plus users and a mature, stable product, but support is help-centre and web only, with no AU presence |

Update history
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Re-verified: QuillBot's native AUD pricing holds, and it now covers every billing term, not just annual.** Checked in a browser from an Australian IP: the page shows **AU$0** and **AU$12.49/month billed annually**, and its own payments data carries `currency: "AUD"` for all four terms — **AU$29.95 monthly, AU$59.95 quarterly (AU$19.99/mo), AU$119.95 semi-annual (AU$19.99/mo), AU$149.95 annual (AU$12.49/mo)**. This corrects a hedge in the 3 June text, which said the monthly and semi-annual options "are priced in USD on its global pages and localise at checkout"; they are quoted in AUD too. It also corrects a mislabel: the three-month option is the **quarterly** plan, not the semi-annual one, which runs six months. GST is still not stated anywhere on the page. `aud_native: true` confirmed. Source: https://quillbot.com/premium · Wayback: capture pending (archive.org returning 500/429 since 19 Sep 2026).
