> **Verdict (TL;DR):** MYOB Business is the safe, deeply Australian choice for small-business accounting — and in 2026 it is no longer the boring one. You get AUD pricing inclusive of GST, BAS and GST tracking built in, Single Touch Payroll and automated super straight to the ATO, and genuinely local 24/7 support. That is the strongest Australian fit in the category, full stop. The new in-built AI — AI BAS, Smart Reconciliation, AI Business Insights and Smart Invoice Reminders — is real and useful, but most of it is still Beta, so treat it as a sharp assistant, not an autopilot. The one thing to watch is the price architecture: the headline numbers are introductory, payroll is a $3-per-employee add-on on the cheaper plans, and the standard Pro price sits higher than many expect. For Australian sole traders, small businesses, and the BAS and tax agents who service them, MYOB is a strong buy. Just budget on the standard, all-in price — not the first-year offer.

## Who this is for (and who it isn't)

**MYOB is for you if** you run an Australian small business and want your GST, BAS, payroll and super handled by software that was built here, for our tax system, billed in dollars you recognise. It is equally for the **BAS agents, bookkeepers and tax agents** who manage a book of small-business clients and want everything ATO-compliant out of the box.

**MYOB is probably not for you if** you are a freelancer who only needs to fire off the odd invoice and track a handful of expenses — the mobile-only **Solo** plan covers that, but you may find a lighter, cheaper tool does the job. It is also not the tool for a large, complex enterprise with multi-entity consolidation and warehouse-grade inventory — that is MYOB's separate ERP product (Acumatica), not MYOB Business.

For the everyday Australian business owner who has been putting off "doing the books properly," this is one of the two names worth shortlisting. Here is the honest read on where it wins, and where it will cost you more than the ad says.

## What MYOB is

MYOB is one of Australia's two dominant small-business accounting platforms — the long-standing home-ground rival to Xero. It is run by **MYOB Australia Pty Ltd** (ABN 13 086 760 198), headquartered in Melbourne, which matters more than it sounds: the product is built around Australian GST, the Australian Taxation Office, and Australian payroll law, not retrofitted from an overseas template.

The current cloud line-up is **MYOB Business**, and it ladders up cleanly:

- **Solo by MYOB** — a mobile-only app for sole traders: invoices, expenses, Tap to Pay, even an in-app business bank account. Tracks GST but does not lodge BAS.
- **Lite** — the entry browser plan for sole traders and businesses with up to two employees: GST tracking plus BAS lodgement, basic inventory, and payroll as an add-on.
- **Pro** — the workhorse for small-to-medium businesses with multiple staff: unlimited bank feeds, sales orders, timesheets, rosters, and the fuller AI feature set.
- **Payroll Only** — standalone payroll for up to four employees, reporting straight to the ATO.
- **AccountRight Plus and Premier** — the more powerful desktop-and-web range for established businesses needing unlimited inventory, stocktake, included payroll, time billing, and (on Premier) multi-currency and multiple businesses.

In 2026, MYOB has layered "in-built AI features" across the range and started calling several of them "AI agents." That is the headline change since this category was last serious, and it is worth taking seriously — with caveats.

## What it costs in Australia

MYOB prices in Australian dollars, inclusive of GST, and issues a compliant tax invoice carrying its ABN. That alone puts it ahead of the USD-only tools your accountant has to reconcile by hand. The figures below are the **standard ongoing prices** — the much lower numbers MYOB advertises are introductory offers that revert.

| Plan | Standard price (AUD, inc. GST) | Intro offer (inc. GST) | What you get |

| **Lite** | $315/year (\~$26.25/mo) | 70% off first 12 months ($94.50/yr) | In-built AI; GST + BAS lodgement; inventory; up to 2 bank feeds; payroll add-on up to 2 staff (+$3/mo each) |
| **Pro** | $70/month | 70% off first 6 months ($21/mo), after 14-day free trial | Everything in Lite + unlimited bank feeds, sales orders, timesheets, rosters, AI Business Insights, Smart Reconciliation; payroll add-on for unlimited staff (+$3/mo each) |
| **Payroll Only** | $15/month | $2/mo for 3 months | Standalone payroll up to 4 staff; STP to the ATO; automated super; online onboarding |
| **AccountRight Plus** | $165/month | 60% off first 3 months ($66/mo), after 14-day free trial | Desktop/web/app; unlimited inventory; stocktake; **payroll included at no extra cost**; bill by time; priority support |
| **AccountRight Premier** | $210/month | 60% off first 3 months ($84/mo), after trial | All of Plus + multi-currency (150+ currencies) + add another business + multi-location inventory |

*Pricing as of 2 June 2026, from* [*myob.com/au/pricing*](https://www.myob.com/au/pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) *(and the* [*AccountRight Premier product page*](https://www.myob.com/au/products/myob-business/accountright-premier?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) *for the Premier standard price). All AUD, GST inclusive. No lock-in contracts; cancel anytime; pay monthly or yearly. Intro offers end 15 January 2027 unless varied. Premier's standard price ($210/month) is shown on its own product page rather than the main pricing card, so it is easy to miss when you are comparing tiers.*

**Value verdict:** Honest, the value depends entirely on whether you read the fine print. The advertised "$21/month" Pro is a six-month teaser; the real number is **$70/month**, and that is before payroll. Payroll on Lite and Pro is a **$3-per-employee, per-month add-on** — so a Pro business paying five staff is really paying $70 + $15 = $85/month plus GST. Premium inventory adds $22/month; online invoice payments cost 1.8% + $0.25 per transaction. None of this is hidden — it is all footnoted — but the gap between the headline and the landed cost is real, and it is the single most common surprise on a MYOB invoice. The flip side: AccountRight Plus folds unlimited payroll into its price, which can make the pricier-looking plan the cheaper one for a business with a real headcount. Do the all-in maths for your staff count before you pick a tier.

## How the AI works in practice

This is the part that has changed. MYOB now ships a set of AI features across the range, most labelled **Beta**:

- **AI BAS (Beta)** is the flagship — MYOB calls it an "agentic" tool. It works through BAS preparation in the background: categorising transactions, reconciling data, checking GST rules, and producing an ATO-ready BAS with plain-English explanations for you to review and lodge. The framing matters: it prepares, you review and lodge. It is not lodging unsupervised.
- **Smart Reconciliation (Beta)** matches bank transactions to invoices and bills as you work, so the reconcile screen is mostly done before you open it.
- **AI Business Insights (Beta)** gives an at-a-glance read on income, expenses, cashflow and profitability, surfacing trends and what is driving them — less time staring at reports.
- **Smart Invoice Reminders (Beta)** schedules and sends reminders to late payers with suggested actions, so chasing money stops being a job you avoid.
- **Category Suggestions** (live, not Beta) proposes a category for each transaction as you code it.

Alongside the AI sit the mature basics that have always been MYOB's job: **bank feeds** (up to two on Solo/Lite, unlimited on Pro and AccountRight), **receipt capture** via the **MYOB Assist** app (which replaced the retired Capture app in February 2026 and uses AI to pull the key details off a snapped receipt), and **In Tray** OCR for supplier invoices emailed or uploaded into the file.

The honest assessment: the AI is genuinely useful and clearly the direction MYOB is betting on, but the "Beta" tags are not decoration. Treat AI BAS and Smart Reconciliation as a fast, fallible junior — they do the legwork, you do the sign-off. For a regulated task like BAS, that is exactly the right posture anyway.

## What it does well

- **Australian compliance is built in, not bolted on.** GST tracking, BAS lodgement, Single Touch Payroll (including STP Phase 2) straight to the ATO, and automated superannuation. This is the core job, and MYOB does it natively.
- **Native AUD, GST-inclusive pricing.** Prices are in dollars, inclusive of GST, with a compliant tax invoice and an ABN your accountant can actually use. No FX guesswork.
- **Genuinely local support.** 24/7 chat on every MYOB Business plan, AU-based support, priority support on AccountRight Plus and Premier, plus an active community forum and MYOB Academy. Timezone-aligned help is a real edge over offshore rivals.
- **AI that targets the right chores.** BAS prep, reconciliation, late-invoice chasing and categorisation are precisely the tasks small businesses hate — and they are where the new AI is aimed.
- **A clean upgrade path.** You can start on Solo or Lite and move up to Pro or AccountRight as you grow, adjusting payroll and inventory in a few clicks. No re-platforming.
- **Migration help off the rivals.** MYOB will cover the cost (via its partner) to migrate current and previous financial-year data from Reckon, QuickBooks or Xero.

## What it doesn't do well

- **The headline price isn't the real price.** The advertised figures are introductory. Standard Pro is $70/month, and payroll is a separate $3-per-employee add-on on Lite and Pro. Budget on the all-in standard rate.
- **Most of the AI is still Beta.** AI BAS, Smart Reconciliation, AI Business Insights and Smart Invoice Reminders all carry Beta tags. Useful, but not yet something to run unsupervised — especially on anything you lodge.
- **Solo can't lodge BAS.** The cheapest, mobile-only plan tracks GST but stops short of BAS lodgement, and you cannot later switch a Solo subscription to a different plan. Choose carefully up front.
- **The headline security page undersells the detail; data residency isn't stated.** The main security page only says controls are *based on* ISO 27001 and that MYOB follows ISO 31000 and is PCI DSS compliant. Dig into the Trust Centre and it is stronger than that: MYOB states it is **ISO 27001 certified** and links to a downloadable ISO/IEC 27001 certificate (number 1103-I-2, MYOB Australia Pty Ltd), and confirms regular independent ISO 27001 and PCI DSS reviews. What MYOB does **not** publish anywhere public is a named IRAP assessment or an explicit data-residency statement (i.e. confirmation that AU customer data is stored in Australia). For most small businesses that is fine; for anyone with heightened data-governance or government-related obligations, ask MYOB directly.
- **It is not built for the very smallest or the very largest.** A bare-bones freelancer may find it more than they need; a complex multi-entity enterprise belongs on MYOB's separate ERP product, not MYOB Business.

## Australian fit

- **Available in Australia:** Yes — MYOB is an Australian company and the AU product is built for AU tax and payroll. ([myob.com/au/pricing](https://www.myob.com/au/pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au))
- **Pricing in AUD:** Yes — all prices in AUD, **inclusive of GST**.
- **GST:** Inclusive. The pricing footnotes state amounts are "(inc. GST)," and MYOB issues a compliant AU tax invoice carrying its ABN (13 086 760 198).
- **ATO integration:** Single Touch Payroll (including STP Phase 2) and BAS are built for the ATO. Superannuation contributions are automated on payroll-enabled plans. ([myob.com/au/support — STP](https://www.myob.com/au/support/myob-business/payroll/single-touch-payroll-reporting?ref=theaidirectory.com.au))
- **Data residency:** MYOB is an Australian entity (MYOB Australia Pty Ltd, ABN 13 086 760 198) and complies with the Australian Privacy Act. An explicit data-residency location (where AU customer data is physically stored) is not stated on its public pages — confirm directly if it matters to you. ([myob.com/au/legal/compliance-privacy](https://www.myob.com/au/legal/compliance-privacy?ref=theaidirectory.com.au))
- **Compliance:** ISO 27001 certified (certificate 1103-I-2, MYOB Australia Pty Ltd), follows ISO 31000 (risk), PCI DSS compliant, with regular independent ISO 27001 and PCI DSS reviews, an internal security team and encrypted channels. No IRAP assessment is named. ([myob.com/au/legal/compliance-privacy](https://www.myob.com/au/legal/compliance-privacy?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) · [myob.com/au/support/security](https://www.myob.com/au/support/security?ref=theaidirectory.com.au))
- **Local AU support:** Strong — 24/7 chat support on all MYOB Business plans, AU-based support, priority support on AccountRight Plus/Premier, plus community forum and MYOB Academy.

**Tax Practitioners Board guidance (final, 22 July 2026).** If a registered tax or BAS agent runs MYOB's AI features on your file, the TPB's Guidance Statement TPB(GS) 55/2026 applies to the agent, not the software: they stay accountable for the accuracy of every output, must exercise their own judgement rather than rely on the AI, and must not put your information into an AI model without your permission and a clear answer on where the data is stored. Nothing here changes those obligations — and none of it replaces advice from a registered practitioner. [Our explainer of the guidance](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/news-tpb-ai-tax-practitioners-australia-2026/).

## A note for the finance category

MYOB is accounting software, not a registered agent. **It does not replace qualified professional advice.** AI BAS and the other AI features prepare and suggest — they do not absolve you of responsibility. A registered BAS or tax agent who lodges using AI-assisted output remains accountable for that output to the ATO. Review everything the AI touches before you lodge it, and if your affairs are at all complex, run it past your accountant or BAS agent first.

| **Xero** | MYOB's main rival — cloud-native, large AU ecosystem of add-ons and advisors, often the default among newer accountants. Worth a head-to-head if you want the broadest integration marketplace. (Review forthcoming.) |
| **QuickBooks Online** | Intuit's cloud platform, AU-localised for GST/BAS and STP, frequently the cheapest headline price. Strong if you want a lighter, lower-cost cloud option. (Review forthcoming.) |
| **Reckon** | A long-standing Australian player, often positioned on value. Worth a look for simpler needs at the budget end. (Review forthcoming.) |

## Bottom line

For an Australian small business that wants its compliance handled locally and correctly, MYOB Business is a strong, low-regret choice — and in 2026 it has a credible AI story to go with the home-ground compliance. The fit is the best in the category: an Australian company, AUD GST-inclusive pricing, ATO-native payroll and BAS, and 24/7 local support. The AI is real, aimed at the right chores, and improving — just remember most of it is Beta and built to be supervised.

The reasons it scores 20 rather than higher are about price honesty and proof, not capability. The gap between the advertised offer and the standard all-in cost is wide enough to sting if you don't read the footnotes. And while MYOB is ISO 27001 certified and PCI DSS compliant, you have to hunt through the Trust Centre to confirm it, and it still publishes no IRAP assessment or explicit data-residency commitment — the sort of proof a cautious buyer in a regulated setting might want. Neither is a dealbreaker for the typical small business — but both are why this is a confident "very good" rather than a flawless top pick.

We would expect to refresh this review inside six months — MYOB is shipping AI fast, several features should graduate out of Beta, and the introductory offers expire in January 2027\. We will flag any material movement in the monitor.

Update history
- **9 Oct 2026** — Re-checked for the AUD-claim queue (#384): every standard price in the table stands on myob.com/au/pricing, read in a browser on an Australian connection today (Solo A$99/yr, Lite A$315/yr, Pro A$70/mo, Payroll Only A$15/mo, AccountRight Plus A$165/mo, Premier A$210/mo, payroll add-on A$3 per employee), all AUD inc. GST, so no figure changes. Two things are new on the page and are recorded here rather than in the table: the intro offers now run to 15 January 2027, and MYOB has posted a price-update notice that from **1 November 2026** the Payroll Only base price rises to A$20/month and the per-employee payroll fee to A$5/month (Lite and Pro base prices unchanged). That change is not in effect yet; a new edition is due when it lands. Capture: `Dossiers/captures/myob-pricing-2026-10-09.txt`.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is MYOB available in Australia?

Yes — MYOB is an Australian company (MYOB Australia Pty Ltd, ABN 13 086 760 198, headquartered in Melbourne) and the product is built around Australian GST, the ATO, and Australian payroll law. It is the home-ground choice, not a retrofitted overseas template.

### Does MYOB charge in AUD?

Yes, and this is a real edge. MYOB prices in Australian dollars inclusive of GST and issues a compliant tax invoice carrying its ABN. No FX guesswork and nothing for your accountant to reconcile by hand.

### Is there a free trial?

Yes. Pro and AccountRight plans come with a 14-day free trial, and there are steep introductory offers — but read the fine print. The headline numbers are introductory and revert: standard Pro is $70/month, before payroll is added.

### Does MYOB handle GST, BAS and payroll for the ATO?

Yes — natively. GST tracking, BAS lodgement, Single Touch Payroll (including STP Phase 2) straight to the ATO, and automated super are built in. Note the new AI BAS is still Beta: it prepares the BAS, you review and lodge.

### Is my data stored in Australia?

MYOB is an Australian entity and complies with the Privacy Act, and it is ISO 27001 certified and PCI DSS compliant. But it does not publish an explicit data-residency statement confirming where AU customer data is physically stored, and names no IRAP assessment. If onshore storage matters to you, ask MYOB directly.
