- Description: Krea AI turns sketches and prompts into photorealistic images in real time, and bundles 64+ models — image, video, 3D — into one subscription. The catch for Australians: it bills in USD, with no AU data residency and no GST handling. Here's the honest read.

*Pricing figures updated 20 September 2026: USD prices are converted at the current rate (1 USD = 1.4045 AUD, Frankfurter/ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026) and shown ex-GST, replacing the retired 1.55 + GST basis. A GST-registered Australian business that supplies its ABN is not charged GST on an imported digital service; other buyers should allow \~10% on top (*[*Methodology*](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/methodology/)*).*

> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Krea AI is the tool to reach for when you want to generate and edit visuals fast — and watch the image form as you sketch or type. Its standout trick is **real-time generation**: draw a rough shape or feed a webcam, and Krea turns it into a photorealistic image in under 50 milliseconds, so you steer the result instead of rolling the dice on a prompt. Around that sits a genuinely deep suite — text-to-image, text-to-video, text-to-3D, upscaling to 22K, generative editing, and LoRA fine-tuning — and the rare convenience of **64+ models in one tab** (Flux, Veo, Runway, Luma, Ideogram, Gemini and Krea's own model), often on release day. The honest catches for Australians: it **bills in USD only**, with no native AUD and no clear GST handling; there's **no Australian data residency** and **no local support**; and the compute-unit credit system takes a moment to learn. Krea does pledge it **never trains on your content**, which matters. For an Australian designer, marketer or creator who lives in visual tools and can wear USD billing, **Basic at US$9/month (≈ AUD$13)** is strong value. For an organisation with strict data or procurement rules, look harder first.

## What Krea AI is

Krea AI is a creative AI suite for making, editing and enhancing visual content — images, video and 3D — in one browser-based workspace. It bills itself as "the world's most powerful creative AI suite," which is the kind of line we usually ignore, but the breadth is real: text-to-image, **real-time image generation**, text-to-video, motion transfer, text-to-3D, generative editing (add or remove objects, adjust style), upscaling (images to 22K, video to 8K), frame interpolation, and LoRA fine-tuning so you can train the look on your own images.

The headline feature is **Realtime**. Most image generators are prompt-and-pray: you write a description, wait, and hope. Krea's Realtime mode flips that — you draw shapes on a canvas or feed a webcam, and the AI renders a photorealistic interpretation in **under 50 milliseconds**, updating as you move. It turns image generation from a slot machine into something closer to drawing. Krea calls itself "the market leader in realtime image generation for creatives," and on the evidence it's the most polished version of this we've used.

The second differentiator is **model breadth**. Rather than locking you to one engine, Krea integrates **64+ models** — including Flux, Google's Veo, Runway, Luma, Ideogram and Gemini, alongside its own **Krea** model — and says it adds "the latest models directly on release day." For a working creative, that means one subscription instead of five, and no waiting for your tool of choice to catch up.

Krea is an **independent company**, not a feature inside someone else's platform (it raised a US$47M Series B led by Bain Capital Ventures in April 2025). It claims **30 million users across 191 countries** and lists enterprise customers including Lego, Samsung, Nike, Microsoft and Shopify. It is a current, live product.

One fact worth pulling forward: Krea's enterprise page states, **"We never use customer data to train or improve our models, and we never will,"** and that **"Everything your team creates with Krea is yours to use, modify, distribute, and monetize without restriction."** That's a strong, primary-stated position in a category where training-data provenance is a live fight.

## What it costs in Australia

Here's the part Australians need to read carefully. Krea sells **direct in US dollars** — there's no native AUD pricing and no GST-inclusive local invoice. The AUD figures below are our own conversions at **1 USD = 1.4045 AUD** (Frankfurter/ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026); your card's actual charge and any foreign-transaction fee will vary, and GST treatment on a direct US software purchase is the buyer's responsibility, not something Krea itemises.

Krea runs on **compute units** — a credit currency spent per generation. Paid individual plans allocate units monthly; **they do not roll over** on Basic, Pro and Max (they do roll over on Business and Enterprise).

*Pricing re-read 20 September 2026 from krea.ai/pricing (USD). Yearly billing saves 40% on individual plans (20% on Business). AUD figures are our conversions for guidance only — Krea charges in USD. One-time compute packs are also available, valid for 90 days.*

**One warning about the Basic tier: you probably cannot buy it.** Krea's pricing page has not shown Basic on any check since 16 September. On 21 September the page was opened in a browser and both the monthly and the yearly view were read: the plan set is **Free, Pro, Max, Business and Enterprise** on each, and the word "Basic" does not appear anywhere on the page. That is four consecutive observations over six days. We first read this as a page experiment, and it may still be one, but that is no longer the most likely explanation and it is not something to budget on. **Treat Pro as the entry paid tier unless Basic appears in your own account.** If you are already on Basic we have seen nothing to suggest existing subscriptions have been withdrawn.

**Value verdict:** The free tier (100 units/day) is enough to genuinely try Realtime and the core models, not just a teaser, and for a lot of people it is the honest answer. Above it, **Pro at US$35/month (about AUD$49), or US$21/month on a yearly commitment, is the tier to plan around** — it is what the pricing page actually offers an Australian today, and it brings every video model and the Nodes automation. **Basic at US$9/month was the better-value entry point and we recommended it, but it has not been on the pricing page since 16 September** (see the warning above), so do not build a budget on it. Max is the tier that moved: US$105 a month now, up 50%, unless you commit to a year at US$63\. Business is for studios. The one thing to watch throughout is the **compute-unit ceiling** — units don't roll over on the individual plans, so a heavy week can leave you topping up.

## How it works in practice

Open Realtime, drop a few shapes or a reference on the canvas, and Krea renders a finished-looking image as you move — change the prompt and it re-renders almost instantly. For ideation, mood-boarding or nailing a composition before you commit, that immediacy is the whole point, and it's the best-executed version of the idea on the market.

Beyond Realtime, the workflow is a single tab with a model picker. Want a Flux still, a Veo clip, a 3D asset or a LoRA trained on your brand's look? It's all in one place, which is the practical payoff of the **64+ model** library — you're not paying for and juggling five separate tools. **Upscaling to 22K** (on Max) and **generative editing** round out a genuinely production-capable kit.

The weaker links are operational, not creative. The **compute-unit system** takes a session to internalise — different generations cost different amounts, and the non-rolling monthly allowance on individual plans means you plan around a budget. And because everything runs in the browser against Krea's cloud, there's no offline mode and no local processing.

## What it does well

- **Best-in-class real-time generation.** Sketch or type and watch a photorealistic image form in under 50ms — Krea steers, where most tools roll the dice.
- **Serious feature depth.** Image, video, 3D, upscaling to 22K, generative editing and LoRA fine-tuning in one workspace — it delivers well beyond the basics.
- **64+ models in one subscription.** Flux, Veo, Runway, Luma, Ideogram, Gemini and Krea's own model, often on release day — one tab instead of five tools.
- **A clear "we don't train on your data" policy.** Krea states it never uses customer data to train its models and gives you full commercial rights to what you make.
- **A genuinely useful free tier.** 100 compute units a day is enough to test Realtime and the core models before you pay anything.

## What to watch out for

- **USD billing, no native AUD.** You're charged in US dollars; expect a foreign-transaction fee and do your own GST sums — there's no AUD invoice.
- **No Australian data residency.** It's a US vendor running in the cloud with no AU hosting region disclosed. Fine for a sole creator, a real question for a regulated organisation.
- **No local support.** Help centre, docs and community for individuals; dedicated support and SLAs sit on the Enterprise tier only — no AU office or business hours.
- **A SOC 2 program, but no ISO 27001 or IRAP.** Krea runs a continuously monitored, third-party-audited security program: its Trust Center makes a SOC 2 bridge letter, a CAIQ v4.0.2 self-assessment and a 2025 penetration test available on request, alongside end-to-end encryption and SSO/SAML for enterprise. It publishes no ISO 27001 certification and no IRAP assessment. For an Australian government or regulated buyer, the absence of IRAP is the gap that matters.
- **Compute units don't roll over** (Basic/Pro/Max). A heavy week can mean paying for top-up packs.

## Australian fit

- **Available in Australia:** Yes — a browser-based product used in 191 countries; no AU-specific restriction found.
- **Pricing in AUD:** **No.** USD only; the AUD figures in this review are our conversions (1.4045, 18 September 2026), not Krea's prices.
- **GST:** Not handled by Krea. A direct US purchase — GST treatment is the buyer's responsibility; no AU tax invoice.
- **Data residency:** None disclosed for Australia. US vendor, cloud-hosted; no AU region advertised.
- **Local support:** None AU-specific — help centre, docs and community (SLA support is Enterprise-only).
- **Training on your data:** No. Krea states it never uses customer data to train its models and grants full commercial rights to outputs.

## Alternatives

| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Leonardo AI** | A broader image-generation platform with a large preset/model library and a generous free tier, if you don't specifically need Krea's real-time canvas. |
| **Recraft** | If your work is brand and vector design — logos, icons, consistent style sets — rather than photoreal generation and video. |
| **Adobe Firefly** | If you need commercially "safe," trained-on-licensed-content generation tightly integrated with Photoshop and the Creative Cloud. |

## Bottom line

For an Australian creator who lives in visual tools, Krea AI is an easy tool to like. The real-time canvas is the most direct, least frustrating way to generate an image we've used, the feature set runs deep into video and 3D, and bundling 64+ models into one subscription is a real convenience. Start on the free tier today; if it clicks, **Basic at US$9/month (≈ AUD$13)** is strong value and includes a commercial licence.

It scores 18 rather than higher for honest, Australia-specific reasons. There's **no native AUD pricing** — you'll wear USD billing, a likely foreign-transaction fee, and your own GST maths. There's **no Australian data residency and no local support**, so an organisation with strict requirements will need to look harder. Krea does run a SOC 2 program (bridge letter on request), but it publishes no IRAP assessment — the certification an Australian government buyer will look for. None of that dents the core creative recommendation — for fast, controllable visual generation, Krea is one of the best tools going — but it does keep it out of five-star, top-pick territory for Australians. We'll refresh this if Krea adds AUD billing, an AU region, or an IRAP assessment.

Update history
- **21 Sep 2026** — *Currency re-checked — still USD.* Read in an Australian browser: three structured-data blocks carry `"priceCurrency":"USD"`, with $0 / $21 / $63 / $160 displayed and no AUD anywhere in the page. No change to the review or the score. Wayback capture pending (archive.org unavailable 21 Sep 2026).
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Basic has now been absent from the pricing page on four consecutive checks** (16, 20 and 21 Sep, the last with both the monthly and the yearly view read in a browser: plan set Free, Pro, Max, Business, Enterprise, and no occurrence of the word "Basic" anywhere on the page). All other figures re-confirmed exactly — monthly Pro US$35, Max US$105, Business US$200; yearly Pro US$21, Max US$63, Business US$160; Free 100 units a day. **What changed here is the recommendation, not the facts.** The verdict led with "Basic at US$9/month is still the sweet spot for most individual Australians", which sends a reader to look for a plan they almost certainly cannot see; the verdict now leads with **Pro**, and the Basic row stays in the table with the caveat attached. Our earlier reading that this was a page experiment is recorded as no longer the most likely explanation rather than deleted. **No score change** — 4/5 Value for Money rests on the free tier and Pro as much as on Basic. [Source](https://www.krea.ai/pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) · Wayback: capture pending (archive.org returned HTTP 500 on 20 and 21 Sep 2026).
- **20 Sep 2026** — **Max is now US$105/month on monthly billing, was US$70** — a 50% rise. The yearly rate is unchanged at US$63/month, as are Free (100 units a day), Pro (US$35 monthly, US$21 yearly) and Business (US$200 monthly, US$160 yearly). **Basic has not been withdrawn**, but Krea has stopped showing it to every visitor: the pricing page now runs a variant that hides the tier, and the tier still renders at **US$9/month monthly, US$5/month billed yearly** when the page serves its standard layout. AUD equivalents re-based at 1.4045 (Frankfurter/ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026), ex-GST. ## Frequently asked questions

### Is Krea AI available in Australia?

Yes — it's a browser-based product used across 191 countries with no AU-specific restriction. There's no AU office or business hours, though; individual support is help-centre and community only, with SLAs reserved for Enterprise.

### Does Krea AI charge in AUD?

No. Krea sells direct in US dollars — there's no native AUD price and no GST-inclusive local invoice. Expect a foreign-transaction fee and do your own GST sums. Basic lands around US$9/month (≈ AUD$13).

### Is there a free plan?

Yes, and it's genuinely useful — 100 compute units a day, enough to test Realtime and the core models, not just a teaser. Paid plans run on monthly compute units that don't roll over on Basic, Pro and Max.

### Does Krea train on my data?

No. Krea's enterprise page states it never uses customer data to train its models "and never will," and gives you full commercial rights to what you make. It runs a SOC 2 program (bridge letter on request) but publishes no ISO 27001 or IRAP, so an Australian government buyer should note the missing IRAP.

### Where is my data hosted?

No Australian region is disclosed — it's a US vendor running in the cloud. Fine for a sole creator; a real question for a regulated organisation with onshore requirements.
