- Description: Copy.ai used to be a simple blog-and-caption writer. In 2026 it's a go-to-market platform for sales and marketing teams — and it has quietly killed its free plan. We test what that means for an Australian small business: pricing, GST, data residency and a ladder that lost its bottom rung.

This is edition 3, dated 21 Sep 2026\. We keep every edition so you can see how the tool and our verdict have moved — [how and why](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/review-timeline/).

> **Verdict (TL;DR):** Copy.ai is not the tool it was — and as of 2026 it is no longer the tool we recommended. The simple AI copywriter that drafted your blog intros and Instagram captions has rebuilt itself as a "go-to-market AI platform" aimed at sales and marketing teams. The chat writer and 90-plus templates still work. What's gone is the way in: **the free plan has been sunset**, in the vendor's own words, so the cheapest entry is now **Chat at US$29/month** (about **A$41** ex-GST) for five seats, or **US$24/month billed annually**. Above it sits a new **Agents plan at US$249/month** (about **A$350**) with 10 seats and 10,000 workflow credits — the affordable middle rung we said didn't exist. Above *that*, nothing you can price: the US$1,000, US$2,000 and US$3,000 tiers have been **withdrawn from the pricing page**, and Enterprise is a sales call. So the ladder gained a rung in the middle and lost both ends. For an Australian solo operator, a tool you could once try for nothing now wants a card on day one, with a 5-day refund window in place of a free tier. It bills in **USD only**, with **no native AUD pricing**, **no Australian data residency** and **SOC 2 the only certification on show**. Still a capable writer — just no longer a free one, and no longer a transparent one at the top.

## What Copy.ai is

Copy.ai launched as one of the first mainstream AI copywriting tools — you picked a template, typed a few words about your product, and it spat out blog intros, product descriptions, ad copy and social captions. That tool still exists inside the product. But in 2026 the company describes itself as **"The First AI-Native GTM Platform"** — GTM meaning go-to-market, the sales-and-marketing machinery of a business. The pitch is no longer "write copy faster." It's "run your whole sales and marketing motion through one AI platform."

Four pieces make up the modern product. **Chat** is a prompting interface — much like ChatGPT — for one-off tasks, and it's where the 90-plus writing templates live. **Workflows** are the headline act: multi-step chains that mimic a human's process — research a target account, find a contact, draft a personalised email, then repeat across a list. **Brand Voice** stores your tone so outputs sound like you. **Infobase** is a knowledge store you load with company and product facts so the AI stops inventing them.

**Who owns it now — and why that matters (added 6 September 2026).** Copy.ai is no longer independent. [Fullcast](https://www.fullcast.com/content/fullcast-announces-the-acquisition-of-copy-ai/?ref=theaidirectory.com.au), a Salt Lake City revenue-operations company, acquired it on 15 October 2025 and says it will sell the technology as "Fullcast Propel (powered by Copy.ai)" inside a "Plan-to-Pay" RevOps suite. Copy.ai's own [announcement](https://www.copy.ai/blog/fullcast-acquires-copy-a?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) promises "one connected system" and says nothing about pricing, plans or the standalone product's future. As at 6 September 2026 the product, pricing page and plans are exactly as described below, and copy.ai still carries no acquisition notice — but the help centre has quietly moved to `support.fullcast.com`, which is usually the first sign of a product being folded in. Read the pricing below as current, and the product's direction as "deeper into sales operations" rather than back towards a simple writing tool. If you are buying the Chat plan for writing, that is fine today; if you are budgeting a year out, ask Fullcast directly what happens to Copy.ai's self-serve plans.

Under the bonnet, Copy.ai is **model-agnostic**: it routes to OpenAI's GPT models, Anthropic's Claude and Google's Gemini, and lets you pick per task ([Copy.ai help centre](https://support.copy.ai/en/articles/10261233-comparative-analysis-of-leading-llm-models?ref=theaidirectory.com.au)). That's a sensible design — you're not locked to one engine — but it also means Copy.ai is a layer on top of the same models you could reach directly. Its customer wall lists Siemens, Lenovo, ServiceNow and Gong, which tells you exactly who it's now built for: enterprise revenue teams, not the freelancer who signed up in 2022.

To its credit, Copy.ai states plainly on its security page that it **"doesn't train on your data,"** doesn't share prompts and doesn't sell data. That's the right answer, and worth noting in a category where it isn't always the answer.

## What it costs in Australia

Here's where the Australian buyer needs to pay attention, because the ladder has been rebuilt — and not in the way the 2026 marketing suggests.

| Plan | Price (USD) | Approx AUD (1.4045) | Seats | What you get |

*Pricing read live on 21 September 2026 from* [*copy.ai/prices*](https://www.copy.ai/prices?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) *and Copy.ai's help centre — the* [*Pricing*](https://support.fullcast.com/copy-ai/docs/pricing?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) *and* [*Additional Pricing Questions*](https://support.fullcast.com/copy-ai/docs/additional-pricing-questions?ref=theaidirectory.com.au) *articles. All prices are USD: there is no AUD figure, no `A$`, and no currency selector anywhere on the pricing page. AUD figures are our own conversion at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rates, 18 September 2026), shown ex-GST, and will move with the exchange rate. GST treatment below.*

**Two things to know before you budget.** First, **the free plan is dead.** Copy.ai's help centre answers the question directly — *“Unfortunately there is no longer a free plan (we had to sunset it)”* — and the “Get started” button on the pricing page now goes straight to a checkout, not a signup. What replaces it is a **5-day money-back guarantee** from the date of your first charge. That is not the same thing, and for a reader deciding whether to test an AI writer at all, it's the difference between risking nothing and risking a card.

**Second, the middle filled in and the top went dark.** The **Agents** plan at **US$249/month** (about **A$350** ex-GST) is exactly the tier this review said was missing in June — 10 seats, 10,000 workflow credits a month, and the Content Agent Studio that trains reusable content agents on your brand. But the old **Growth (US$1,000), Expansion (US$2,000) and Scale (US$3,000)** tiers have been **removed from the published pricing page**. Their markup is still in the page source, sitting inside a container the site hides, but nothing renders and no visitor sees a price. Everything above Agents is now a demo booking. One caveat on Agents, stated plainly: **it appears in Copy.ai's help centre but not on its public pricing page**, which shows only Chat and Enterprise. We have quoted the help centre because it is the vendor's own documentation and it is the article the pricing FAQ sends new customers to — but confirm the figure at checkout before you commit.

**GST:** Like most US software firms selling into Australia, Copy.ai is required to add 10% GST on sales to Australian consumers under the ATO's digital-services rules. Neither Copy.ai's pricing page nor its security page states how it handles Australian GST, so budget for GST on top of the USD figure and check your tax invoice; if you're GST-registered you can generally claim it back.

**Value verdict:** Losing the free plan costs Copy.ai more with our readers than the Agents tier wins back. Chat itself is fair buying — five seats and unlimited writing with model choice for about **A$41/month ex-GST** is good value against most of this category, and A$34 on the annual plan is better. Agents at about **A$350/month** is a tier a small Australian marketing team could genuinely justify, and it is a real improvement on June's four-figure wall. But two things pull the score down. A sole trader who wanted to try an AI writer for nothing now can't, and a 5-day refund is a weaker promise than a permanent free tier. And with Growth, Expansion and Scale withdrawn, you cannot budget a single step past Agents without booking a sales call. That is why Value for Money drops from 3 to 2.

## How it works in practice

For everyday writing, Copy.ai is quick and familiar. Open Chat, pick a template or just prompt it, and it drafts a 500-word blog post, a batch of subject lines or ten ad variations in under a minute. Brand Voice keeps the tone consistent once you've set it up, and Infobase cuts down the made-up "facts" that plague generic chatbots. If your need is "help me write more, faster," the free or Chat tier does that job without fuss.

The Workflows are the genuinely different part — and the part most Australians won't reach. A prospecting workflow can take a list of target companies, research each one, find a contact, and draft a personalised first email, all in one run. An ABM (account-based marketing) workflow can generate insights and assets for your top accounts at scale. Built well, these save a sales team real hours. But they consume **workflow credits**, and credits only come with the US$1,000-plus plans. So the most-promoted capability is locked behind a four-figure monthly spend.

The honest read: most of what a small Australian business needs — fast, on-brand copy — lives in the cheap tiers. The expensive tiers buy automation that only pays off at sales-team scale.

## What it does well

- **A fair entry price for a team.** Chat gives you five seats and unlimited writing for about A$41/month ex-GST. Most rivals charge that for one seat.
- **An affordable workflow tier at last.** Agents at US$249/month (about A$350) puts the automated workflows within reach of a small marketing team — something that was impossible in June, when the same capability started at US$1,000.
- **Model choice in one window.** Route the same task to GPT, Claude or Gemini and pick what works. You're not locked to one engine.
- **A clear "we don't train on your data" stance.** Stated plainly on the security page, alongside no prompt-sharing and no data-selling.
- **Fast, on-brand drafting.** With Brand Voice and Infobase set up, it produces consistent copy that needs less cleanup than a raw chatbot.
- **Built for real workflows at scale — if you're the right buyer.** For an enterprise revenue team, the automated prospecting and ABM workflows are the actual value.

## What to watch out for

- **No native AUD pricing.** Everything is in USD. Australians pay an exchange-rate-dependent amount and carry the currency risk.
- **The free plan has been sunset.** Copy.ai's help centre says so outright. You now pay from day one, with a 5-day money-back window instead of a permanent free tier — and the old help article describing the free plan has been deleted.
- **The top of the ladder is unpriced.** Growth, Expansion and Scale were pulled from the pricing page. Above Agents there is no published figure at all, only a demo booking — so you can't budget an upgrade path without talking to sales.
- **The vendor's own sources disagree.** The public pricing page lists Chat and Enterprise; the help centre lists Chat and Agents. Confirm the Agents price at checkout rather than trusting either page alone.
- **It's pivoted away from solo creators.** The product, the customer logos and the marketing are all aimed at sales-and-marketing teams now. A freelancer is no longer the target user.
- **No Australian data residency.** US vendor, US-centric hosting; no AU region advertised. Fine for marketing copy, a question for regulated data.
- **Thin certifications.** The security page shows SOC 2 and SSO only — no ISO 27001 or IRAP, and no public trust centre portal. That matters for government or enterprise procurement here.
- **No local support.** Help centre and a support form only — no AU office or business hours.

## Australian fit

- **Available in Australia:** Yes — it's a web platform, open to Australian sign-ups.
- **Pricing in AUD:** **No.** USD only — no `A$` figure and no currency selector anywhere on the pricing page. We've converted at 1.4045 (ECB, 18 September 2026); your charge moves with the exchange rate.
- **GST:** Not stated on Copy.ai's pricing or security pages. Under ATO rules, expect 10% GST added for Australian consumers; check your invoice and claim it back if registered.
- **Data residency:** None advertised for Australia. US vendor, no AU hosting region on show.
- **Local support:** None AU-specific — help centre and support form only.
- **Training on your data:** No. Copy.ai states it never trains on your data and doesn't share or sell prompts.
- **AU-aware outputs:** No. It writes in whatever English you steer it to — set Brand Voice for Australian spelling, or it'll default to US.

## Alternatives

| ------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **ChatGPT / Claude direct** | If you just want fast writing with model quality, going straight to the source is cheaper and gives you the same engines Copy.ai routes to. ([Read our ChatGPT review →](https://www.theaidirectory.com.au/chatgpt-review-australia/)) |
| **Jasper** | A closer like-for-like on the marketing-copy side, with its own brand-voice and campaign features — worth a head-to-head if Copy.ai's enterprise pivot leaves you cold. |
| **A native AU or AUD-billing writer** | If GST clarity and an Australian tax invoice matter to your bookkeeping, a tool that bills in AUD removes the currency and invoicing friction Copy.ai adds. |

## Bottom line

Copy.ai is a capable writer wearing an enterprise sales suit. If you're an Australian small business that wants to draft copy faster across a few people, **Chat at US$29/month (about A$41 ex-GST)** is still fair value — five seats, unlimited writing, and your pick of GPT, Claude or Gemini in one window. If you're a small marketing team that wants the automation, **Agents at US$249/month (about A$350)** is now a real option rather than a four-figure fantasy.

But understand what changed. The **free plan is gone** — sunset by the vendor, who says so in its own help centre — so there is no longer a no-risk way to find out whether Copy.ai suits you. A 5-day refund is the replacement. And above Agents the published ladder simply stops: the US$1,000, US$2,000 and US$3,000 tiers have been taken off the pricing page, leaving a demo booking where a number used to be. It bills in **USD**, offers **no Australian data residency**, shows only **SOC 2**, and has no local support.

It scores 15 for honest reasons, down from 16\. The writing is good, the model choice is genuinely useful, and the new Agents tier fixes the gap we complained about in June. But the thing we praised loudest — a permanent free plan that let an Australian try it for nothing — no longer exists, and the vendor stopped publishing prices above US$249\. The Australian fit is unchanged and still weak: USD-only, no AU hosting, GST unstated. We'll refresh this again if Copy.ai restores a free tier, publishes its upper tiers, or adds native AUD billing.

Score* *16/25 → 15/25* *(Value for Money 3 → 2); band* *⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good → ⭐⭐⭐ Good* *.* Copy.ai's help centre now states plainly: **“there is no longer a free plan (we had to sunset it)”** — the permanent 2,000-words-a-month free tier this review recommended **no longer exists**. A new **Agents** plan appears at **US$249/mo** (about A$350 ex-GST) for up to 10 seats and 10,000 workflow credits — the affordable middle tier this review said was missing. Meanwhile **Growth US$1,000/mo, Expansion US$2,000/mo and Scale US$3,000/mo have been pulled from the published pricing page** (the markup survives in the page source inside a hidden container, but nothing renders); the only thing above Agents is a quote. Chat is unchanged at **US$29/mo, was US$29/mo** — five seats, or **US$24/mo billed US$288/yr**. Conversions rebased to **USD→AUD 1.4045** (ECB reference rates, 18 September 2026), replacing this review's earlier ≈1.40 and two surviving \~1.55-era figures (A$45 and A$1,550) that contradicted its own table. - **21 Sep 2026** — *Currency re-checked — still USD, and the plan structure has changed.* Read in an Australian browser: no `AUD` or `A$` anywhere in the page. The lineup is now **Chat at $29/month for 5 seats** (billed monthly, \~20% off annually) plus a **Self-Serve / Enterprise** split, plus a **Self-Serve / Enterprise** split. The currency finding stands; the **pricing table was queued for a rebuild** and was rebuilt the same day — see the bullet above. *(Correction, 21 Sep 2026: this bullet originally read the page's `$650` and `$2.6` as GTM tier prices. - **6 Sep 2026** — Ownership corrected: Copy.ai was acquired by Fullcast on 15 October 2025 (announced by both companies) and is being positioned inside Fullcast as "Fullcast Propel (powered by Copy.ai)". The standalone product, pricing page and plans are unchanged as at 6 September 2026 (Chat US$29/mo or US$24/mo annual; Growth US$1,000/mo; Expansion US$2,000/mo; Scale US$3,000/mo; Enterprise custom — *the Growth/Expansion/Scale tiers have since been withdrawn from the pricing page; see the 21 Sep 2026 bullet above*), and copy.ai still presents as Copy.ai with no acquisition notice — but the help centre has already moved to support.fullcast.com. Score unchanged; the ownership note below is new. Sources added.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Copy.ai available in Australia?

Yes — it's a web platform open to Australian sign-ups. But there's no Australian footprint: no local support (help centre and a form only), no AU-aware defaults, and the marketing now targets US sales teams.

### Does Copy.ai charge in AUD?

No. Everything is in USD, so you carry the exchange-rate risk — there is no AUD figure and no currency selector on the pricing page. The Chat plan is US$29/month (about A$41 ex-GST at 1.4045, ECB 18 September 2026). GST isn't stated, but expect 10% added for Australian consumers under ATO rules — check your invoice and claim it back if registered.

### Is there a free plan or free trial?

No — not any more. Copy.ai's help centre states plainly that “there is no longer a free plan (we had to sunset it),” and the pricing page's “Get started” button now goes to a checkout rather than a signup. The permanent 2,000-words-a-month free tier we recommended in June 2026 has been withdrawn. What you get instead is a 5-day money-back guarantee from the date of your first charge.

### Is there still a gap in Copy.ai's pricing?

Not in the middle — but there is one at the top. The old jump from US$29 to US$1,000 has been filled by the **Agents** plan at US$249/month (about A$350 ex-GST), with 10 seats and 10,000 workflow credits. What's changed for the worse is above it: the Growth, Expansion and Scale tiers have been removed from the published pricing page, so there is no advertised price beyond US$249 — only a demo booking.

### Who is Copy.ai best for?

A small Australian business or team that wants to write faster — Chat gives five seats and model choice for about A$41/month ex-GST, which is fair. A small marketing team that wants the automation can now reach it on Agents at about A$350/month. With the free plan gone, a sole trader testing the water has no no-cost way in and should compare it against tools that still offer one.
