**Our pick: Triple Whale.** The verdict below says who should buy the other.

> **Winner: Triple Whale** for the typical Australian Shopify brand. It fixes ad attribution — the problem most local stores actually have. Pick Nosto only if you run enterprise traffic and the storefront, not the ad spend, is your bottleneck.

If you run an Australian Shopify store and you have been shopping for a growth tool, you have probably seen both these names. They get filed together as "ecommerce AI," and that is where the confusion starts. Triple Whale and Nosto barely compete. One tells you which ads actually made money. The other changes what shoppers see on your site. Buy the wrong one and you will solve a problem you do not have.

We reviewed both separately. Triple Whale scored 17/25 (Very Good). Nosto scored 15/25 (Good). This piece is not a re-score — it is the decision the scores do not make for you: which problem is yours.

## What both tools actually do

Treat this as the part that clears up the confusion. These tools sit at opposite ends of your growth funnel.

**Triple Whale is a measurement tool.** It installs a first-party pixel on your Shopify store, then reconciles what it tracks against your raw Shopify order data. The result is one honest answer to a question every ad platform lies about: which channel actually drove the sale. Meta overclaims. Google overclaims. Triple Whale cuts through both. Its May 2026 Moby 2 release adds AI automation on top — generating ad creative, pausing underperforming campaigns, and flagging profit anomalies. But the core job is attribution. It does not touch your storefront.

**Nosto is an experience tool.** It changes what each visitor sees. Product recommendations shift by behaviour. Category pages re-merchandise to apparent intent. Content blocks, pop-ups and search results all draw on one behavioural profile per shopper. The goal is a higher conversion rate and a bigger average order. It does not tell you which ad drove the visit — it works on the visitor once they arrive.

So the real question is not "which is better." It is "which end of the funnel is leaking." If you are wasting ad budget on channels you cannot measure, that is Triple Whale. If your traffic is fine but too few visitors buy, that is Nosto.

## Pricing in Australia

This is where the two tools separate hardest, and where most Australian SMBs get their answer before features enter the conversation.

**Triple Whale publishes its prices.** The Foundation plan is US$219/mo — roughly A$307 converted at USD→AUD 1.4045 (ECB reference rate, 18 September 2026) and shown ex-GST. Below that sits a genuinely useful free tier: the Triple Pixel, first and last-click attribution, a 12-month lookback, and 10 users at no cost. You can start measuring properly for nothing, then upgrade when you see the gap between what Meta claims and what actually happened. Paid plans run on a 12-month commitment, billed in USD, so the exchange rate adds risk to the year. GST is not confirmed at checkout — Triple Whale's terms put tax responsibility on the customer, so budget for it and get your own advice.

**Nosto does not publish its prices.** It is quote-only, with no public tiers and no free plan. Third-party reports put the entry point near US$1,000/mo (\~A$1,400), but Nosto publishes no figure, so treat that as indicative and demand a written quote. There is no free trial either — the only way in is a sales-qualified Proof of Concept. As a Finland-based vendor, expect EUR or USD invoicing and GST handled under reverse-charge rather than billed locally.

The gap is stark. A Melbourne store owner can self-serve Triple Whale's free tier this afternoon. Nosto requires a sales call before you can even learn the price. For most local SMBs, that opacity alone settles it.

## Where Triple Whale wins

- **It solves the problem most AU Shopify stores actually have.** Multi-channel ad spend with no trustworthy attribution is the common bleak. Triple Whale plugs it directly.
- **You can start for free.** The free tier delivers real attribution rigour at no cost — enough for any brand under A$500K GMV. Nosto offers nothing equivalent.
- **It is built for Shopify.** Native Shopify support is its home turf. WooCommerce and BigCommerce remain in beta.
- **Moby 2 automates the Sunday-afternoon dashboard chore.** Weekly reports, campaign anomaly alerts and creative generation run without a human watching.
- **There is Australian proof.** Activewear brand LSKD used Moby agents to detect over A$100,000 in fraudulent affiliate commissions and lift blended ROAS 40% — a vendor-reported case, but a local one.

## Where Nosto wins

- **It personalises the whole journey, not one touchpoint.** Search, category order, on-page content and email all draw on a single behavioural profile. Point tools do one of those; Nosto does the lot.
- **The AI is included in every module.** No premium gate on the smart features — fair value at enterprise scale, where rivals charge separately.
- **It is platform-agnostic.** Nosto runs across multiple ecommerce platforms, not just Shopify — useful if you are not on Shopify at all.
- **It is proven at scale.** For high-traffic, large-catalogue retailers, the algorithms have enough data to lift conversion and order value materially.
- **It earns the deepest feature set in its category.** That breadth is the point — if storefront experience is genuinely your constraint, nothing here is wasted.

## Which to pick — decision framework

Work down this list and stop at the first match.

- **If you spend real money on Meta and Google ads and cannot trust the attribution — pick Triple Whale.** This is the most common Australian case. Start on the free tier, upgrade to Foundation when the data gap shows.
- **If your store is under A$500K GMV — pick Triple Whale's free tier.** It is the only one of the two that lets you start at zero cost. Nosto is premature.
- **If your traffic is strong but your conversion rate is the bottleneck, and you do enterprise volume — pick Nosto.** This is the narrow case where it is the right answer, not the wrong one.
- **If you are not on Shopify and you need full-site personalisation — Nosto.** Triple Whale's non-Shopify support is still beta; Nosto is platform-agnostic.
- **If you need both — buy Triple Whale first.** Fix your measurement before you spend on personalisation. You cannot tell whether Nosto worked without trustworthy attribution underneath it. They are complementary, but in that order.

## The verdict

For the typical Australian Shopify brand, **Triple Whale is the pick** — and it is not close. The problem most local stores have is ad spend they cannot measure, not a storefront that underperforms. Triple Whale solves the first directly, lets you start for free, and is built for the platform you are already on.

Nosto is not a worse tool. It is a different tool aimed at a different buyer. For an enterprise Australian retailer with the traffic to feed the algorithms and a conversion rate that is genuinely the constraint, Nosto belongs on the shortlist and the quote-only pricing is par for that course. But that describes a minority of our readers. For everyone else, the four-figure floor and the sales-call wall rule it out before features matter.

Both tools carry the same Australian caveats — offshore data, no AUD billing, no AU-timezone support — so neither wins on local fit. The decider is the problem you are solving. Fixing your ad reporting? Triple Whale. Optimising an already-busy storefront at enterprise scale? Nosto. For the 35-year-old Melbourne store owner reading this, that is almost always Triple Whale.

Update history
- **21 Sep 2026** — **Nosto's reported entry point re-cut off the retired 1.55 basis: \~A$1,550 → \~A$1,400.** The comparison quoted two different Australian prices for the same figure — the quick-comparison row read *\~A$1,400* and the pricing section below it read *\~A$1,550*, which is US$1,000 at 1.55\. Both now read \~A$1,400 (US$1,000 × 1.4045, ECB reference rate 18 September 2026, ex-GST per our GST rule). **The US$1,000 is still a third-party report, not a Nosto price.** Triple Whale's A$307 was already correct at that basis but was described as a “×1.40 gross-up”; “gross-up” is the vocabulary our GST rule retired for our conversions, so the wording now says converted and ex-GST. No figure of Triple Whale's moved and no score changed. Superseded figures kept visible per our price-history rule.
