## What changed

Ahrefs, best known as an SEO suite, now sells a dedicated AI-search tracker called **Brand Radar**. It measures your brand's "AI visibility" — how often you get named, mentioned and cited inside the AI answer engines — and benchmarks you against competitors. It tracks six surfaces: **Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot**, with **Grok** listed but currently unable to gather new data due to platform policy changes ([ahrefs.com/brand-radar](https://ahrefs.com/brand-radar?ref=theaidirectory.com.au); [Help Center](https://help.ahrefs.com/en/articles/11064852-what-is-brand-radar-and-how-to-use-it?ref=theaidirectory.com.au), checked 23 June 2026). This puts Ahrefs squarely into Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) — the discipline of being found when customers ask an AI assistant instead of typing into Google. ## What it means for Australians

The practical point is **don't pay twice**. AEO is a crowded new category — Profound, Otterly, Scrunch, Peec — and the pure-play tools want a monthly fee. If you already pay for Ahrefs, you can run the free checker today and see roughly how AI describes your business before you commit to anything.

But read the fine print. A *basic* slice of Brand Radar — tracking a handful of your own custom prompts — is bundled into the paid Ahrefs plans (Lite US$129/mo up to Advanced US$449/mo). So "I already have Ahrefs" gets you a taste, not the full picture — meaningful ongoing tracking is its own bill, and a steep one. As with the rest of Ahrefs, it's **USD-only, no GST line, no Australian data region**.

For most Australian small businesses the honest path is: run the free checker first, then decide whether ongoing AI-visibility tracking is a live enough question to pay for — and if it is, compare Brand Radar's price against a cheaper dedicated monitor before defaulting to it.

## Does it change our recommendation?

No change to the score.
